James, if you have a copy of DL then there's a rebate with your purchase of gold. If you buy DA directly it's $30, if you buy Gold and own DL you get $10 back, so it all works out about the same. That's reasonable pricing for an expansion, so I don't understand your complaint.

Hmmm.... I bought DL for $44.95 last year. I still play it on and off (don't regret buying it). That said, I just heard about DA through a review. I came to check it out, but I'm rather disappointed to see the pricing model for this (gold same price I paid a year ago, DA more expensive than DL).

Since you already have DL, it's only $29.95 to get the DA upgrade. The gold is $44.95 and it gives you both DA and DL. Right now DL costs $19.95 by itself. This makes perfect sense to me. Pay 30 bucks if you want DA. If you had waited until now to buy anything, then you'd get them both for $44.95. But at least you got to play DA that whole time. Not sure what pricing model you're expecting.

I have no problem paying for upgrades. I make my money building software myself. I'm just stating I'm surprised at the pricing model. Usually expansions are sold at a lower price then the original software. $29.95 for DL and $19.95 for DA would have been more sense (or maybe higher price on the Gold) if StarDock really did value those that bought early.

Personally, I'll probably pass on DA (unless the price drops a year from now) as I don't see $30 in new features. This feeds back into the original question I posed, how well have upgrades sold?

The "original software" was $44.95 when it was released. It sounds like you would be okay with it if DL currently cost $44.95, DA cost $29.95, and Gold cost $59.95.

Stardock dropped the price of DL to $19.95 and it's been out a year. This is like every other PC game. Stardock release expansion DA for $29.95 a year after original game. This is like every other PC game that was successful. Granted they could have made it $19.95 but they have put alot of development time into DA and they still working on it. That's how they recoup their costs.

Early adopters for PC games always pay more. If you wait a year, you either get the same thing as if you bought it day one for half price, or you get the original game plus an expansion for the same price as day one (expansion for free). This is exactly what Stardock is doing like every other PC game company.
