Are these two useless?

I'm finding that building the orbital terraformer is a waste of that particular planet's production? Even if its tiles are full, i'd rather set the emphasis to research. Terraforming on each individual planet, by this time in the game, takes a turn or 2 and most of my planets are generally not building planet improvements or not many at anyrate.

And I assume the galatic guide book is a blunder since by the time its built all anomalies are gone.

I find that the orbital terraformer is useful when going taking over enemy plants which don't have the tech to open up the spots. Furthermore, it saves me time on my planets on which there is little production base (say, if I have a research colony.)

To make the guidbook more useful, it'd be cool to have anomolies spawn or go through the galaxy (say, an asteroid, which moves pretty fast so there's an element of luck to picking up on it, and having the guidbook would be a nice help.) But as it stands, the guidbook is fairly useless.

Orbital Terraformer effects ALL planets that you own, Not just the one you build it on.

Yes, I know. My point is its almost useless to build it because by the time its actually built most, if not all of my planets, have terraformed and built on those squares already. Every game.

And don't forget if you pick Neutral, that opens up all of your tiles as well.

I wouldn't say Oribital Terraformer and Galactic Guide Book are useless (as you can see we have people trying very hard to come up with weird circumstances where they are useful) I would say they are extremly underpowered.

Yes, they definitely need to change the Galactic Guide Book.

Now, if it made all sensors free, it would still be worth it. Nice, cheap sensor ships are a plus, especially on gigantic maps when the enemy can come from nowhere when you don't yet have eyes of the universe (aka that lagatron 4000 when you have a big war going on)

Imho the orbital terraformer is quite nice on larger maps, where you have lots of planets. Fifty times habitat improvement, soil enhancement and terraforming adds to some money. It also saves you some weeks when conquering planets.
