Thanks for the ships guys

I had to laugh. I am playing a game right now and am currently getting my butt handed to me by the Dark Yor. The Alterians sent me "several of their best ships" to help me in the war. Guess what they were....5 freighters with missles. Each have 1 HP. I don't think i have ever seen the AI build ships like that before...certainly not fight me with them. It's almost like they were made just to give away. The things are so slow, i have not been able to get them to a battle in 6 turns. Gee...thanks for the help guys! ;)

Hey at least you recieved some ships. Every time I get that message I can't find any ships that aren't my own design anywhere. IE-bug, so they don't actually end up giving you ships?

If you are getting that message and not recieving any ships, check around (or use the ship pop-up display) to see if you have any new mining starbases. The AI just loves to give me their mining starbases for some reason. Personally I find it annoying because it makes the game to easy. Bas enough I can usually buy the bases for 5-10K, but to have the AI give them to me? Oh well.

The AI gives you stuff? I've managed to get my relations with several powers up to 'close' but never get anything beyond small cash handouts of 100bc at a time.

I have reieved 987bc once. Nothing over that though. The AI gave me ships once, but by the time they reached me I had already whiped out the enemy. I just put them on the closest planet assigned to transport target practice.

I've received 3 frigates and a battleship from the Yor and 3 cruisers from the Arceans when I was fighting against the Drengin. It let me build my "Foreign Fleet".

AI generally gives cash if you are powerful. Kinda like a 'please don't hurt me, see I give you money to be my friend' type of thing (Ok, I play evilly so thats what goes through my head when they are giving money.) They give ships (or starbases) if the AI thinks you are losing a war with a faction they hate.

Hey nothing wrong with freighter with a truck load of weapons on it. as long as it has enough firepower to smite whatever its fighting on the first round it works like a charm!

Q ships rock, early in the game. I found that i can stuff a bunch of guns and engines on them and raise unholy terror on the galaxy for cheap They are kinda like a cheap capital ship. only problem is again they have 1 HP, but if you attack first you win becuase your going up against ships that have 6-11hp, and you can easily strap that much fire power on a freighter

The Arceans once gave me three mining starbases. A research, an influence and an economy.

Early on in one game the Altarians declared war on me. I wasn't really in a pinch because I had all sorts of production capacity and I would have beaten them down quite handily, but the wonderful Arceans still gave me three mining starbases upgraded with technology well beyond mine at the time. They were each +10 mining and bristling with weapons. Considering that there were no resources anywhere near my starting position, it was quite a coup.
