Assasination random (vengance) event a little crazy?

So here I am on my way to a victory and something odd happens that I haven't seen happen before, Im playing on the newest beta.

Right now Im kicking the crap, or was, out of the Drengin Empire who had been pummeling me for a while. I made peace with them and took 7 of their worlds as my "pay off" but two turns later the entire screen is filled with vengance fighters and cruisers. Essentially on a gigantic map they were given well over 300 new ships to use against me.

Buuuuut it gets better the same event happens to the Torians a whole six turns later... so right now the whole screen is covered in little green fighters and covervettes with people that are quite pissed at me.

That's when you need a Galactic Express card...the card that is accepted anywhere. Bribe them for peace - then watch as they eventually attack each other....

I've seen that once with one race - That's what I did - but it must be amazing to see with two at the same time...do you have a screenie you can post?

You should have put more mney into tyour esponage, I've never had that problem when I did, but can usually count on it if I don't.

It's not related to espionage, it's random. I love it. No matter how far in the game you are, they use sniper class ships, with 2 attack. It's so fun.

I got this when the drengin had a final stand against the arceans, neither were allies of mine i was content to let them kill each other. Needless to say it was entertaining watching many tiny drengin ships swarm over arcean battle ships. In fact it bought the drengin enought to time regroup i was very impressed by the AIs ability to do that.

False, the developers have said that this event is linked to the players espionage level. It doesn't happen (or at least it's frequency is lowered alot) if you have sufficient espionage on the other race.

Update: I just had a game go Vengeance on me. FYI, I had complete espionage (highest level) on all other races. Can't say about chances being lowered, but it does happen with full espionage.

I just had my closest ally (the Arceans) go Vengeance on me through an assassination event. I was allied to every race but one, and every allied race - in turn - declared war on the Arceans. The following turn I asked the Arceans for peace. They understood it was all a mistake. The problem now is, none of my allies will make peace. So every turn I try to bribe them with dreadnaughts above their tech level. I've got it down to a war of two of my allies against my friends the Arceans.

This diplomatic occurrence is at odds with what happens when you go to war along side one of your allies. The Torians (the only race with which I am not allied) keep attacking my much smaller ally, the Yor. I go to the defense of the Yor and would really like to wipe the Torian scum off the face of the universe. But after I take a couple planets from them, they make peace with the Yor and suddenly I am no longer at war with them. Even though I have not agreed to stop fighting.

I have full espionage information on all remaining races so I do not have any money presently spent on espionage. So perhaps it has to do with current levels of funding and not total levels of espionage. But I suspect the Vengeance events are a random end-game event to disrupt your strategy.

I had a vengeance event on a Tiny map where literally every 2nd square on the map had one of those stupid things in it. Not cool. Turns were taking 6-7 minutes to complete on my dual Opteron gf6800 system. I ended up having to destroy their empire just to get the game running again.

That's one way for a galactic empire to deal with I.T. problems.

It does seem weird that it'd be linked with espionage. Maybe you're thinking of the event where your ambassador accidentaly insults another empire.

I have had to endure this event a number of times.
It is lame in my opinion. I wouldn't mind it so much if it weren't for the way it goes down. The event itself is fine, so is the resulting war declaration. The problem is the map getting spammed with hundreds upon hundreds of useless spacecraft. Its not like they ever fleet up, coordinate, or do anything that could accidentally be construed as common sense by a particularly charitable observer. They just wait to die, or attack unarmed or unhardened targets of opportunity. It's like one big galactic riot.

I always play a huge or gigantic galaxy ( I like the FOW and long distances), so the result for me is a reboot. My machine can post about 8000 on 3DMark05, yet the vengeance event in a huge or gigantic galaxy makes the game bog down and become unplayable.

I guess I might have done that

Wow. On my single vengence game, they did both independent AND fleet activities with the little buggers. They get dangerous in packs.

What I'd love is if the player had the chance to try and ease tensions and avoid war somehow. It doesn't make total sense that two races that have been allies for years and friends for even longer to suddenly forget all about their historial friendship and throw all their weight into attacking their former ally.

It'd be great to offer appeasement or compromise in order to calm the new leader down or even better, if it depended on the popularity of the previous leader. Maybe if their approval rating was very high, the new leader can't control his senate and they all vote to declare war anyway.

Hmm I played a long game last night in which I spent extra care to be sure and have espionage covered on all other species and races. I also made sure not to trade with species that were not aligned with me once everyone had xeno ethics researched. No occurences of vengeance events. Maybe it's just random and my luck improved, but it seems that vengeance is probably tied to espionage levels.
