Battlefleet Gothic mod?

This is my first post here, so I'd first like to commend Stardock, a decidedly cool company, on Galactic Civilisations 2, a decidedly cool game.

We've seen material here for Babylon 5 mods, Star Trek mods and Star Wars mods, but to me there is still a gap left to be filled: Battlefleet Gothic.

For those who don't know of Battlefleet Gothic, its a fleet-based tabletop wargame set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

I'm not really much of a modder, (although I'm sure I could do my bit if I got into it), but I was just interested in guaging response to the idea.

I think it has a lot of potential - 7 races (Imperial, Chaos, Orks, Eldar, Tau, Necrons and Tyranids), each with highly unique methods of war, designs of ship, and attitudes to one another, a brilliant setting, and a huge fanbase. Plus there are dozens of ship designs ready to be modeled, for a huge variety of ships.

So.. what do you lot reckon?

PS. I'll post up some links to relevant materials if anyone's interested/doesn't know what I'm on about. Pictures of ships, rules, etc.

I think it would rock, gothica is a cool tt game and the models are fantastic looking. Sisters of Battle!

I live for Chaos! Iron Warriors will pwn you. Got it?

Anyway, a battlefleet gothic mod would be really fun. Not sure how it would actually work though...

You'd have to create several ship designs.

Tau (you could use the existing scheme for Yor )
Chaos/Human (not too different, one is a corrupt version of the other)
Orc ( big rocks with stuff attached )
Eldar
Tyranid ( similiar to dreadlords )

You could then script several campaigns. With each campaign showing the "Segmentum" that you are dealing with.

Warhammer 40K

I'd be curious

If, IF, you could get someone to render hulls and weapons...

Imperial, Chaos, Eldar, and to a lesser extent, Marines and Greenskins would be very "do-able" because of the data available on them, Tau have some decent designs too... Unless you just BS-up some hull designs, Necrons, 'Nids and Dark Eldar wouldn't do. They have what, 3 ship designs each? Don't even know if SoB have a fleet or just use Imperial...

Marines have plenty of ships, but I think they'd be better off folded into Imperials.. or perhaps not.. Necrons have about 5 or 6 ship designs I think.

Customisable ships would make sense for 'nids though.

Dark eldar would of course be right out.

actually, chaos ARE NOT corrupted imperial ships.

(on the table top anyway)

THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TYPES!!!
(unless hosting a recently defected one)

note: by "chaos" i mean the traitor legions.

these are generally more firepower, less torps n lances. n sometimes faster. (slaughter classes XD)

officially, marines only have three catagories on ships:

battle barges, (massive things with hideous firepower, brutal boarding skills, etc etc etc)

strike cruisers (mini versions of battle barges)

and rapid strike vessels (the rest. aka cobras, firestorms and swords)

i would also love to see this too. and on a LARGE scale too... (fighters n bombers in their carriers - work around is make the fleets bigger)

i do not know however, if the system which fleet picking is normally used (on the table top) SHOULD be used:

its generally limitless escourts (tiny things like frigates n stuff)
a helping of cruisers
and then rare battleships (duh)

might make it a bit borin though, although far more strategic

<-- loves ships, loves warhammer 40k.

khorne awaits!

p.s

khorne is the blood god, and the legion who worship him are the world eaters, crazed berserkers who love nothing more then go into battle and rip their foe to tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny peices (and then eat them/ drink their blood at least)

and of course, world eaters are RED- my fav colour
i love nothing more then to see a squad of berserkers go through squad after squad of imperials. ahhhh.. (game on pc AND on table top)

I actually haven't read any of the background story for BF Gothic, I know from the game end of it that chaos's ships are VERY different from Imperial but with enough similarities to consider them linked somewhat.

Marines may only have 3 basic designs, but if the Barge takes "Huge" and the Strike cruiser being "Large", their fleet is otherwise light imperial designs. Either BS some similar-in-look smaller hulls from what the marine ones look like, do a marine/imperial mix army, or make the marine army seperate with all lighter hulls imperial-style but a different AI and using designs not made for the IG.

well course they;re linked, they were once (ONCE!!!) one big, all conquering family.

then they rebelled, so of course, their core tech is the same.

just they had to rely on different paths from there.

i can supply information on:

orks
eldar
imperials (inc space marines)
chaos.

i can research the others...

Concerning Chaos and Imperial designs, they're all actually Imperial. I'm not entirely sure why there aren't more ships from each other used in the lists, if you see what I mean, but in the Armada expansion for BFG, there's an option to use chaos ships in an Imperial fleet...

So I think that you'd be safe in combining Chaos, Imperial and Marine ship designs into one general type.

Then you'd have Orks, Eldar, Tyranids, Tau and Necrons. The Necrons do actually have quite a nice selection of ship designs; two light, one medium, one large and one huge (Jackal and Dirge, Shroud, Scythe and Tombship respectively).

I'm certainly willing to help info-wise, and I've played around with Blender a bit in the past if you want a modeller. Just don't ask me to texture the damn things.

Oh, and I should point out that you can't expect anything material from me for a month or so... exams...

just so you know, the Marines also have the Thunderhawks, which would be their tiny ships.

This is how it would be setup for Space Marines:

Huge - Battle Barge
Large - Strike Cruiser
Medium - Frigates & Destroyers
Small - Strike Vessels
Tiny - Thunderhawks

I might be off with the sizes of the Frigates, Destroyers and Strike Vessels since I haven't played the Space Marines in several years, let alone play any of the games in several years. Also, the Space Marines can use several classes of Imperial ships as well, so, they have a well rounded fleet.

After looking at Forgeworld, I've seen many designs for Tau vessels on there. As for Chaos, they do have their own style of ships and they are different from Imperial designs, at least from what I remembered.

Anyone else up for some modelling ?

I wiped up a quick Armatus-class to test but still struggle to get it In-Game.
Since there seem to be some ppl interested in seeing the grim future done on this scale - lets actually DO it.

There is a nice groundwork available for dl - it just lacks some models ^^

What the hell is Battlefleet Gothic?

You should have read the original post before posting as it answered your question!

it won't be interesting

the fumes from citadel paint have destroyed the part of the brain the helps people to make mods.

nothing is gonna come of this other than my rough and random mod.
