Can this be done?

I've got several ideas for modifications to the game that would make life better for players... for instance (and feel free to give me feedback. I don't want to learn how to make mods if none of these are possible).

before you create a starbase, being able to see the area of influence the starbase would have - a preview function if you will.. is this doable?

In the trading screen, when you right click on a tech, I'd like to be able to see another field with several options in it. The field would be Tech Attained (like Future Techs or whatever), and the options could be Stolen, Traded, or Researched. Then I would also like to put in a field for people who you have already traded that tech too. Useful for when you put the game down and come back to it a week later and want to get right back into the diplomacy parts.

I'd also like to create a "Maximize profits" button on the trade screen. Currently, if I trade a tech to someone, I have to click on their money, use the slider until their acceptance of the deal turns green, and go up/down in incriments of 1 or 10 in order to make the absolute best deal for myself. This is repetitious and boring... something that should be a button - but that's just my opinion.

This last one is something I may just not know how to do. I'd like to be able to switch all planets at one time to a specific focus. Last game I played I played a custom race with max research, creativity, and luck bonuses. I wanted to see a tech victory for the first time and thought it would be cool to be able to make every planet of mine go to research. In the end though, some idiot leader decided to attack the galactic super power (me), thereby forcing me into a war with him. Yes, he surrendered, and then I won another damned influence victory because then everyone ELSE surrendered and it started this nasty chain reaction of me taking over planets through influence blah blah blah.

So please, let me know if this is at all possible, or if these ideas are something that is beyond the ability of modders.

disable the influence/alliance victories on the galaxy creator. Then the only way to win is to A: take over the galaxy by force or B: Tech Victory

Let's not get hung up on the minor points (sorry about the rant). I just want to know if these type of modifications are possible in the game by someone who isn't a dev.

Still no responses? I just want to know what the limitations are on modding... is it exclusively visual effects?

You can modify effects, yes. Techs, improvements, ships, starbases, events... etc.

However, the maximize profits thing will want to access variables we won't have access to most likely. Even though I have DesktopX, I haven't tried modding the screens--yet. I dunno, but I agree i don't like the slider much and your idea suits me fine. Things like that aren't doable because its not modding data, rather its changing the engine/game itself.
There is a fine line modders can't cross and usually that's touching the source code or game engine.
