Please post your debug.err file here. This file can be found in your galciv2 program folder. (usually c:\program files\stardock\totalgaming\galciv2)

This will help us to determine what is going on.

Also, if you haven't already, please try updating to the most recent version ( v 1.0x ) and check your drivers to make sure they are up to date.

Thank you.

The debug.err is just a plain text file. You can open it with notepad.

You wouldn't happen to know if your machine has "DEP" turned on ? (Data Execution Prevention, right click "My computer, go to "advanced" and then performance)

hmm ok this's getting wierd... i opened debug and it says that i have ---played--- it . i dunno is this normal, but there are like 20 pages of thingys that say like
"Debug Message: Create setup screens." (note game has allready tilted in that point) and " Debug Message: Total Ships: 8 & 0 are dead" and "Debug Message: Destroying ship USS Discovery. Orbiting: 0".
well there is 20 pages or more of that and i can post it here but i thnk it would be smarter to send it in some other way...

and seer, it's pretty hard to follow your advices because i have finnish computer so name are diffrent. actually they are very diffrent so i just can't follow them
or actually i can't figure what performance is here...

Berry,

Just copy and past the first several sections that tell about your computer, vid card and so on to the forums here. It's at least a start.

No worries. A quick and dirty translation.. I have no idea if it's accurate at all as I my Finnish is rather bad

Te esiintyä jotta osata tokko sinun koneistaa has DEP " hapantua model after? ( aineisto Esitys Ehkäisy , aivan click " minun tietokone , sisu jotta " kehittynyt " ja niin muodoin esitys )

Hope the above makes a little sense to you........... ("DEP" may not even be related to your problem)

Oh, it is only relevant if you are using XP..

Hmm.. Rereading your original post, never mind this. If it was DEP it usually stops the program from starting in the first place. Seems you do get or got the intro.

You're welcome In my defence I used a online translation service

Here's part of a debug.err we would like to see. BTW, it's no problem if you post the entire file here.

Ouch! Those drivers are 4 years old! The game can't run on anything older than 2. You need to go to ati.com to get them updated.
well i betcha that is the problem then... haha
Reply #14 Top
buut what i SHOULD download here? i don't know like anything about these drivers... could someone help me here?
Go here https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293 and get the Catalyst 6.4 Windows XP - Driver Download

okey i have problem.. again... well i downloaded every catalyst there was... well every which DID work was no help, they didn't affect. and there was like 3 which i think they could fix this annoying problem but it allways says "IFF error. video card not found" or something like that. (i'm not sure about that IFF). anyways... i need help again
Reply #17 Top
You are running the original release version - it had several crash bugs. You need to update it to the 1.0x version which is very stable.

Also, you need to have at least a 1GB page file. Yours is way too small.

And, the game requires 256 MB memory - you only have 190 MB.
To install the latest ATI drivers, you're going to have to run a utility from right here. It should modify the drivers to let you use them. Read the instructions before posting back here confused

However, even with the new drivers you might not have much luck. Your GPU is an embedded dealy that's built into your laptop's motherboard. It's not really made for very intensive tasks; from what I gather it might even have a Radeon 7000 core (not good). The post above me also points out the other reasons why the game may not work.

pk it's finally working .

thanks for everything and i know that i was little annoying but anyways you guys were great

thanks again and now i PLAY muahahhaha

NONOONONONOOOOO

now this %&/¤ing game let's me to go to main menu and choose what civilization i want to play and stuff what you do before the main game BUT when this game has loaded this %&/#ing computer deteces error again and closes cal civ...
Also on mine, I enter the options for a new game, and when it starts to load, it suddenly restarts the computer
Reply #23 Top
New debug.err then, if it's a different crash.
Your video chip reads like its a Radeon 7000 equivalent, and your memory is too small. I'm telling you, it's not unexpected that this game won't work at all.

Run Smart Exception. It's in the Free Stuff section of Stardock Central. Debug.err won't be useful.
Asked for the .err to make sure the drivers registered, in the hope it can work without him having to get more memory. It's happened about once before, and I'm not optimistic, but just to make certain.
