Minor Races

1.1?

Hey all, I was totally addicted to this game for a month when I came out, but I left for a while now try other games, so I donno whats been planned for 1.1. One thing that bothered me about the game in 10X is that the minor races are still totally useless.

By useless I mean they dont DO anything. The trade and give in to threats, but thats about it. Whats more, minor races usually build up quite an adequate fleet in the early game, more than enough to wage war with, and even conquer a poorly defended planet. But I noticed that even on "bright" difficulty and above, they just let their transports hang around in space and never use them!

SO I was just wondering if this was adressed.

OH another thing, new minor races that pop up always seem to have all the techs of the most advances civ.. thats kinda stupid, when Im racing ahead in a certain field I dont want some new civ to trade away all the hard work of my empire for a few credits.

You can eitehr wipe 'em out and take their planet or befriend them and use them as a trading partner. You can also give them ships and pay them off to attack other people (but the AI will know you paid them off in 1.1).

I am playing a game currently where one of the minor races is at war with me, because they kept putting influence star bases next to my homeworld, so I trashed them and started a war.

Well, the buggers took one of my planets which I had to take back and then later, when another major civ surrendered to me, giving me one far flung planet on the far side of the galaxy, I lost that one to an invasion by the same minor race!

They certainly appear to be functioning adequately to me. My biggest problem is that I have not yet found their homeworld so I can destroy it!

I allied with a minor race as a tactic to prevent the Arceans from taking their planet (which I want for myself), but now I can't break the alliance with the minor race!! Unlike the major races, there is no "break alliance" checkbox for the minor ones. How do you break alliances with minor races???

As Conquest is the only victory option turned on in my game I suspect I'll wipe everyone else out then not be able to finish the game because of that stupid alliance...

Conquest victory is by destroying all "major" civs. The minors do not count. Trust me I saw it in a game as drengi domination.

I once saw the snathi take about 6 planets off the torians btw

I wish minor races did more as well.

First of all, I think there should be more of them and make more intelligent decisions.

Second, I think minor races should be partially subservient to the major race in which the planet resides. In other words, if a minor race is under your influence, you should be able to have some sort of control over policy. (Isn't this the point of "influence?") Perhaps we should be able to establish their trade routes by demanding that they not trade with certain races, or even be able to use them in warfare in some way. To vary things up, the farther out the minor race is from the center of influence, the harder it is to influence policy, and in some cases they may rebel against their major race.

in the new 1.1 there is an option to have no minor races

Okay, that's good to know. Perhaps it's my faultly memory but I could've sworn that in my very 1st game I had conquered all the major races but the game wouldn't let me win until I had taken out the remaining minor race. But I'm probably remembering incorrectly - maybe it was an ALLY I had to take out. Thanks.

Every major, ally or not.

Also, the Snathi etc haven't got the AI to conquer planets, they shouldn't be able to. However, the Terran Confederancy, fundamentalists and all other major offspring have a basic major AI.
