Trade Routes and diplomacy

Hi,

is it true that trade routes help with increasing the stading you have with an AI in diplomatic terms? I mean with time if you have 2,3 or 4 trade routes opened with a race, will your standing with them increase faster?

Is it a good idea to use trade routes as a diplomatic means?

A very good idea, but trading maxes out at a ++
So I try to get everyone to that, and if I have a few routes left I establish highly profitable routes.

VladTheImpaler, I think you're right. Trade routes help your standing, trading on the trade screen does too and giving gifts also. In my experience, at least. And iirc you can have up to 13 trade routes - or is it 16?

As it always takes ages for me to get the AI civs to wish to ally with me, I might be wrong....
