can't break alliance

After creating an alliance with one of the minor races plus initiating some trade routes, i've decided to break the alliance in order to eliminate the race (cruel, I know).
The problem is I don't get the option of breaking the alliance, as I would in the major races, but instead I always get the 'trade embargo' option, which somehow cannot be checked?
What could be the problem? How do I break that disturbing alliance?

I dont think ANY alliances can be broken with a "break alliance" button. I realy wish
there was such a button . What you can do is pay that race to attack someone else
(or get another race to attack them I think) and not support them in the war. This should break
the alliance. Right now I'm allied to a major race who doesn't want to attack
nor is the target of any other races. It's realy annoying cuz I can't get a HUGE amount
of territory .

there is a beak alliance button for the major races
as for the minor race ... i've never seen such a button
why not just attack them?

A button exists for the major races.
I can't attack because I'm an ally of the race.
What a catch.
