First, a ZIP file is not an executable, which makes it a poor candidate for virus distribution.
Second, even if I did package a virus inside the ZIP file, I am making posts from my stardock account, which is attached to both my e-mail address and my credit card. It would be phenomenally stupid to do such a thing. Stardock apparently agrees with me, since they routinely open up "scary" ZIP attachments from e-mails sent via SmartException. But from your post, BigHairyGoat, you obviously don't understand any of this.
Third, I did not post the debug.err because I've already used SmartException to log the crash and I've already send that ZIP file to stardock support. I posted a link to a copy of that ZIP so I could draw attention to the devs and maybe find out whether or not this crash would be fixed in the next release. I was trying to be polite (so much for that) and do this without outright pestering the devs. I am very close to finishing my game, which is the best GCII game I've ever played and I can't complete it unless I can load the bloody save files. I am not happy with the prospect of having to start the game from scratch having invested 14+ hours into it, especially knowing that this same problem could happen again with the next game I play!
Fourth, if you bothered reading between the lines of my post, you would have realized that all of the save game files I am having problems with were generated with Beta 4 and only Beta 4. This is not a save game format issue caused by upgrading GCII mid-game from pre-Beta4 to Beta 4.
Bah.
