Planet invasion exploit

Mass Drivers
Cost: 200 bc
Required Tech: Planetary Bombardment
Affect: +100 - +200 attack value
Affect: -10 - -50 PQ
Affect: -50 - -100 planetary buildings
Notes:
This attack is great if the enemy out numbers you by a large amount. Also
if you don't care about the PQ or building left after the attack you may
use this to ensure you will win a close fight. One useful tactic is to use
this attack with a minimum of your troops trying to lose the encounter. This
prevents the negative affects and allows you to wipe out a significant
portion of the defensive force. Then you can use a less destructive attack
to take over the planet with your next wave.

This is IMO unfair. Shouldn't using destructive invasion tactics damage the planet whether the invasion succeeds or not?

No.  This is by design.

If the invasion fails, the damage is thwarted.

Hey I recognize that text ... it's from my FAQ. Next time you might want to include a *I found this here* type statement

No no no. All one would have to do is send several 1 person transports and decimate the quality of the strong races' planets. No need to capture them, just stick them with fifteen PQ3 powerhouses.

Wow, never thought of this before. I can see the argument on both sides quite easily. I can see why It shouldn't take effect if the invasion fails, in order to prevent the devistation of these planets with simple half ass attacks. However, I now need MUCH less transports to accomplish the goal. Oh WOW, this game is even easier now. I have quit playing the game untill the release of 1.1. I feel it is just way too easy. One of the only difficulties was having to build enough troop ships to take over large Dregin planets. But now, even this is gone. There is no good solution to this beyond revamping the planetary invasion model IMO.

Still holding out hope.

what difficulty are you playing on? I never play on anything less than intelligent (tough).. and although I can beat the AI reliably.. i don't think it's ever "so easy" as you put it.

Masochistic. Was planning to go to obscene next but what difference does it make what the numerical advantage is? The problem is the AI doesn't use the units it creates. To be honest, I haven't noticed much change in the computer behavior from my first game on begginer to my last game on Masochistic. The only difference was the increase in production etc.
