Keeping the research after each level of the campaign

I think they need to make an update were we can start each level of the campaign with the research we did in the last level already done that way we are not going over the researching tech each level. It gets a little annoying to research somthing again after i had it done the level before. It also makes it easy for the dread lords beat you down because your wasting time tring to get weapons and defense that i had a level before. What do you think?

That would be stupid.
What would stop people from researching every single tech on the first mission and then come here complaining that the campaign was too easy?

What you need is a limit on what you can research for each level, like there already is as far as researching missiles and mass drivers, etc. So you wouldn't be able to get phasors on the first map, or something. Apply these limits across the board, and then just start the next level with a certain set of techs already researched, to enhance the "story arc" feel.

Yeah, and this is completely do-able with the current campaign/scenario setups. It is one of the major lacking points in the current game, and will hopefully be made up for when Stardock releases 1.2 with full modding features and modders like myself put out some mods for it.

A simple storyline tweak would fix this as well. Something along the lines of "As the conflict with the Drengin Empire was warming up, humanity found themselves sending out colony ships to remote sectors. Different leaders will find themselves in different circumstances, facing different challenges, as they move through the unfolding campaign against the Drengin--and worse."

You could integrate this into more of a persisting thread throughout the campaign:

* Specific leaders for the campaign would be customized (meaning the leader abilities are hardwired, perhaps, rather than player designed).

* The same leader wouldn't play every campaign, but some leaders would make more than one appearance in a campaign.

* Leaders could bring their technologies forward with them? (bringing units forward would see silly)

This would obviously mean the need to redesign the scenarios, but it'd be mroe fun that a number of stand-alone scenarios linked by an interesting but--for that part of the campaign that I played--fairly predictable and formulaic storyline.

The scenarios themselves seemed reasonably well-designed, but the backstory felt more like an excuse to jump through the hoops outlined in the victory conditions for each scenario than an epic saga in and of its own right.
