More AI fun on the weekend

Easter AI

One of the general areas I have been looking to keep improving on the computer AI is its overall strategic overview.  It's a tricky thing since even in multiplayer games, many tactics simply work well.

For example, "rushing" in on-line games is an age-old problem.  My job is to take my online experience and translate it to having computer players that "feel" a lot like human beings (except minus the disconnects and a couple of specific game-related features such as your  "diplomacy ability" affecting your relations positively).

Doing this has meant adding quite a bit of new text so that players understand what's going on. I've tried to make it more apparent when someone is being paid off to go to war with you than previously.  But while I was at it, I thought I'd add more colorful text to existing areas as well. ;)

Nice.. incorporating some favorite one or two liners would be a h00t!

war declaration "There Can Be Only One "
or "Mr. Kona -chev, Tear Down That Wall! "
"Ask not what my empire can do for you, ask what you can do for my empire "
"I feel the need, the need for speed. "
"Let's play Hardball "
"I am not a crook. "
"Do or do not, there is not try "
"Alan Bradley, I am your Father... " with a reply of "NOOOOOoooooooooooooooo! "
"We named the dog Indiana ! "
*punch translator* "A" (Henry Winkler/Fonzi impersonation )
"Kona, James Kona "
"Once you do it, there's nothing to it. Vogue. "
"Hee hee, Ooh Billie Jean is not my lover. "
"Talk to the left hand, cause you ain't right. "

unfortunately I don't understand all what "Supreme Shotgun" said
some of the sentences proposed are just too obscure for me...
like the reference to Alan Bradley or James Kona or the dog or Billie Jean

how can that be a declaration of war ?
please stardock don't make the game so complicated that we need too much culture to understand what the computer is trying to say to us although things like :
"There Can Be Only One" are pretty obvious

thanks.

And I actually thought the GC2-crashes were designed to simulate these bailers.

Alan Bradley is the name of the human leader in the game, teh referance is from Star Wars. James Kona is a James Bond knock off. Billie Jean is a Michael Jackson song.

I personally like the "Mr. Kona-chev, tear down this wall!" Classic Gipper.

I've always liked this one. Lets see if anyone can guess exactly where its from.

Right before a war.

I personally would like "We will remember you, when you are only sand."

Slightly more obscure: (Drengin message while winning a war against you)

Haha you fool, you've fallen victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Kona, but only slightly less well-known is this: Never go in against a Drengin when death is on the line!

Not that obscure. The Princess Bride is an often quoted movie.

I still can' t place S1Genocide's quote.

Sorry. Not all of the ones I posted were actual war declarations. They were grasping at pop culture or more correctly past pop culture. Which may or may not add spice. I would like to see them but others may say too cheesey.

Hardball refers to show on MSNBC hosted by Chris Matthews. "Mr Gorbachev Tear Down That Wall!" is by Ronald W. Reagan as correctly pointed out. The next was a malevolent altering of a JFK speech, " ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. " Need for Speed was a quote by Maverick in movie Top Gun. I am not a crook was uttered by Richard Nixon. "Do or do not, there is no try" is a quote from Yoda in Star Wars. So was the next, it was an altering of conversation between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. "Luke, I am your father " and then you got to hear Luke scream "NOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo!!!" Indiana refers to none other than Indiana Jones, but the quote was in Last Crusade. James Kona, as was pointed out, reference to James Bond. Vogue lyrics to Madonna Song. (could you imagine catching an alien leader doing Vogue ? ROFL ) Also Billie Jean was Michael Jackson.

After hearing it pop up the other day:

"All your base are belong to us! " with a response of "Someone set us up the bomb." (war declaration)
(first contact) "Main Screen Turn On" or "We get signal "
(request for help) "Launch every zig, for great justice "

also "We will destroy civilization unless you pay us One MILLION bc" *put pinky finger to mouth* (war declaration)

"Mortal Kombat! " with response of "Test your might. " (war again )

"Will the real Korx Shady please stand up ? " (Diplo Beginning with Korx )

or "You ain't nothing but a hound dog. " with a reply "Don't step on my blue suede shoes. " (Random Beginning )

"Burn baby burn. Disco Inferno - We're going to burn this mutha down" (War )
"You're more than a woman to me. " (diplo beginnings )

and back to the OP, what if the response to that was "You had me at Hello. "

The Terminator quotes are already heavily used but what the hey. "Ill be back" "Hasta La Vista, Baby. " "You've been terminated. "

Some more presidential/political quotes: "Depends on what your definition of IS is. " (a diplo response, quoted from Slick Willie )
"I. AM. BULLETPROOF. " (SNL gag on Slick Willie, referring to how no news even the Monica scandal could harm him. )
"LockBox! " (SNL gag on Gore, not totally sure how to place it though )
"We shall defeat the Axis of Evil " ( G Dubya, war declaration )
"Tippecanoe and Bradley too! oh sorry you caught me discussing ideas for my next election" (Terran diplo )

Existential Poetry of Donald Rumsfield, "There are things that we know, and things that we don't know. There are also things that we know that we don't know and things that we don't know that we don't know. " (diplo response )

some more pop:

"Whatever we deny or embrace, for worse or for better " response - "We belong, we belong together" (diplo beginning with ally maybe, Pat Benetar btw)
"Come on, come on love me for the money " (bribe or demand, AC/DC )

"Everybody is Kung Fu Fighting and those Cats are fast as lightning" (diplo popup when people band together on the agressors, Carl Douglas)

"I'm going to live forever. Fame! " (diplo popup surrender, Irene Cara )

"You gotta know when to hold 'em, and when to fold 'em. Know when to walk away and know when to run." (diplo surrender, The Gambler -Kenny Rogers )

"Another one bites the dust !" ( surrender, Queen)
"We will rock you " (war, Queen )
"We are going to rock you like a hurricane. (war, reference to Scorpions )

"I am a man of constant sorrow. " (diplo beginning or first contact )

wow I went on a roll. Maybe I should just make a mod.

"We will remember you, when you are only sand." -Jawas [Knights of the Old Republic] -right before you fight 3 Sith on Tatooine.

I suppose it would have helped out if I had played that game.

A quote I would've liked to see would have been, "Ground Control to Major Tom." -Space Oddity, David Bowie.

I did play KOTOR, but must have missed the line. I would like to see some HK-47 / 50 quotes for the Yor though:

Occaisonal "meatbag" references.
Declaration of war: "Statement: We are eager to facilitate communications, and terminate ... hostilities"
Diplomatci Greeting: "Query: Is there someone you want killed master?"
Surrender: "N-1 is ready to serve, master"
