a couple of questions

I just bought the game, and there are two questions I thought I'd ask.

1. Is there a way to change it so that turns are a month instead of a week? I just don't believe that the human race can more than triple in size only a few months after colonizing a new world. It's really just a matter of preference, I suppose, I just think the time frame would be slightly more 'realistic' (I put that in quotes because this is scifi, and technically nothing is realistic) in this way.

2. What folder are player-created ship designs in? I'd like to delete a design and redo it, because I made a typo when I was typing the name, and the misspelling is DRIVING ME CRAZY!! I'll admit, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and tiny things like this do bother me.

And since this is my first post, I just thought I'd congradulate the game designers on producing a winner. Even without tactical combat (which I usually like), this game really is the best of its genre, finally surpassing MOO2.

Dunno if you can change weeks to month... I would also like to do this, since it's really weird with weeks.

As for the second questions, go to:

My documents \My Games\GalCiv2\ships

(perhaps it's not called my documents, since I don't have an english windows, but it's the folder where usually personal documents are saved. The folder itself is created by windows. Hope you'll still find it, despite my explenation.

There you'll find xml files of your ships, which you can easily edit to change the pronounciation error.

1. No idea. Although I would rather there be an option to switch between weeks and turn number,

2. The ship are saved in two places. Under "C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships" and "C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships". I tend to clean out all ships when I start a new game in which I chose a new ship-set (race creation/appearance).

Name correction just "upgrade" and fix then delete the old design in game, if you don't have any built*. If it's a typo in the description, and if you don't have any built, just upgrade/fix/save using the old name and it will overwrite it.

If your not using the beta and are waiting for the release version patch, you might just want to wait before doing anything. The patch will be out very soon and there have been a lot of changes to the ship builder part of the program, including a change in the type of file some of the info is tracked in. The XML files mentioned is something in the beta

In the 23rd century the word week actually means month. There is some confusion as to how a week became a month but it is rumored that it had something to do with expanding on the daylight savings time idea.

Months sounds a little bit better, but even changing it to months, and even with the beta patch where they slow population growth it is still an unrealistic growth rate. If you want to change it to something that makes real world sense then change it to years.

But then you end up with ridiculous time frames for things like the UP- what sort of organisation meets every 50 years? And that's before we get on to the elections... Plus, since the game would then take centuries to actually finish, how do you explain the lifespan of the species' leader?

The problem is that without massively redesigning the game, there is always going to be something that doesn't fit with the timescale.

Perhaps an organization consisting of leaders who are functionally immortal, as may be possible in the 23rd century.

I am content with the weeks being months but if you must have an explanation for population growth years are necessary. But wait, then it is taking years to build a simple ship.

Soooo.... voila, the population is not from birthrate but from cloning vats.
