Video Card Thrashing Sound on PC Ati X800, Athlon 3400 1gb ram with all versions of GCII

Hiya, I was hoping it would fix the video card fan making funny sounds with the "limit framerate" option, or maybe something in the latest patch. Open opening GCII (even playing the intro video) the video card fan makes 2x the amount of noise (and it sounds not healthy), as it does running windows/any application or game, I can just about max out games such as Farcry, and play X3, reunion (no starforce junk on my system atm) without the same kind of VC fan sound, and yes, I know for certain it's the video card .

If someone can suggest anything that could help, I'd really appreciate it. Tthe extra yucky noise really put's me off of playing this wonderfull game.

Thanks.

It seems to only make the extra fan noise when playing in fullscreen.

I have an ATI 850XTPE with an AMD Opteron running at 2800 and 2GB of RAM. As soon as a start to run the game I too notice that the fan on the graphics card starts to increase in speed and so produces more noise. I run the game at 1280x1024 with 6xAA. The case temperature is cool and the ambient room temp is cool (I hate the climate at the moment in the UK - its cold and I'm a wimp). I do find that Oblivion does the same though, regarding the fan noise. So I accept that although there is some differences in the quality of graphics from Oblivion to GCII both games seem to demand a lot of GPU power and so need a lot more cooling.
I don't have any other games installed at the moment to test it with but IIRC last summer when I played other 3D games the graphics card fan would then increase as it was doing the job it was supposed to do.
If your room and case temps are fine and the cards fan is clean of dust then, as long as it is not making a type of noise that is due to the fan bearings being faulty, it is just doing its job.
There are other coling fans that could be used, but will they be any quieter, and be aware of buggering your card and warranty up as well...

Fans will get louder as they spin up, and any kind of smart fan will spin up when you load the GPU heavily.

You might want to look into an aftermarket fan, some of which are designed to be as quiet as possible.

aftermarket fans r probably ur best route for only 30-20 bucks (US) you can get a pretty good quiet fan and keep your video card a couple degrees cooler

for instance when i played oblivion with my stock fan on the video card i reached 110 degrees farenheight on my vid card, and then it crashed

now with this new fan from newegg im ideling out at 35 usually and play oblivion at 50 plus its quieter so its an extra bounus

Seconded! I have an Artic Cooler Silencer V on my 6800GT, darn thing is silent. I mean, litterally, it's silent. I can't hear it unless I put my head down right next to it and fire up something really graphics intensive, and then I think it's the CPU fan I'm hearing.
