Counter Intelligence

Stop enemies from gaining your tech.

I have been playing this game for some time now. And with the beta update it made the game even more worth wild for playing, however. Why can't we have counter intelligence? To keep the other races from getting our tech or vice versa, or even possibly being able to turn that off, cause it has never done me any good even when I had allot of resources dedicated to it. This one feature makes me feel like I can't control my people even if they are happy. Or maybe that it should be set so that my enimies would only get my secrets if I have a low moral. I think that this would make it more fair in the game.

I agree. The espianage system in GalCiv 2 leaves much to to be desired. I love the game but this aspect needs work, and it wouldnt even be that hard to impliment counter intelligence and even agent 'operations' such as training a agent send him into enemy territory and give him general commands such as lowering moral, stealing technologies (which would be a very large 'mission'), or even destabalizing fleet operations (removing ships from a fleet so they would operate on a temporary reduced logistic ability). On the map you would see your agent as a little symbol on a enemy planet, fleet, or starbase where you then could assign the mission or move him to another planet starbase or fleet. This addition could add immense strategy. I could just see it, a huge fleet moves in on a small fleet of ships and its obvious who is going to win but then BAM a agent removes a certain number of ships from the huge fleet by temporarily lowering their logistics (this could be explained in many ways such as sabatoging a hyper drive of a ship making it 'fall' out of the fleet before battle). The small fleet could then fight on equal terms with a overpowering empire by guerrilla fighting in space. divide and conquer. A small civilization that simply doesnt have the industrial stength to match a huge oppenent but focued in espiange now has a chance to actualy turn the tide of a war despite lack of research/industrial strength.

I'd rather they kept it simple. A litte slider under the espionage spending called "counter-espionage spending" is good enough for me. EG: Drengin spend 80bc spying you. You spend 60bc on counter-espioage. Drengin only get 20bc of espionage. Nice and simple.

That would be great, except that then no one could spy on the civ with the highest economy - no one would be able to afford it!

Something should be done here. Now that you can see auto-pilot tracks, espionage is very good.

1) You should have to at least maintain a spending level to keep new data coming in.
2) There should be counter intel, which would
a) make ship data/ autopilots unavailable
b) make stealing techs more difficult
c) data on race etc unreliable

Although you'd really need some measue of how good you think you're data is. (excellent, shady, suspect, marginal)
Being able to just look at a races ships in orbit or a fleet is way too easy right now . (to scope out weapons/defense and overall capabillity)

I like the money and counter money view, because this would make it more economical for all. We should be able to protect our secrets and so should they. Also, this should be also be based off of the difficulty of the game. The higher the AI then they could see that they would want to steal my tech, and add more money to their espionage, and less with a lesser AI setting. This way it is more flexible with how some one would go about running an empire.

Also it could be that not just influence star bases could affect the enemy or ally, you could also have an operative like WanderingSamuria stated. This could make it even more insidious not only for evil empires. But also by disrupting other races it could change your alignment to good & evil. Or even screwing up and raising their moral based off of a random chance, or a by the amount of money or skill an operative would have.

I think that by all of us discussing this we have found a proposal that could greatly enhance this game that it could make it even more fun for us to play. And be able for us to win in the way that would truly show what alignment we truly are….
