Any way to break up enemy Alliances?

I am in a game in a large galaxy with 9 races. The Game has come down to 2 sides now. My alliance group led by the Squirrel Empire from the planet Peanut and the other alliance led by the Torians .

Now Militarily the Torians are just as powerful as I am. In fact they occupy the same space as me. I have managed to flip 2 planets to me now but its hard to do and they don't like me very much but also fear a war with me. In fact all the planets are within my territory but they have a crap load of fleets flying around. So we have this comingling of our 2 races and then alliances.

I fear them because they could attack all my planets and star bases at the same time and most of their planets are maxed out for ships in orbit. So a war would be costly with them at the very least. I have reduced their alliance size by attacking 1 partner and convincing the others to make peace with me while I annihilated the alliance member but that was 2 planets so it was easy.

Is there a way to cause members of their alliance to quit it so they can join me?

Tough place to be man, I sympathize... Perhaps the old saying "If youcant beat em, join em!" might work. Try building an alliance with the Torians and go for a diplomatic victory!

Wow, that sounds like a tough spot to be in. Torians can be tricky when it comes to alliances. Whatever you do don't show any military weakness as I've noticed they tend to take full advantage of it. However, that doesn't mean you should start flinging missles at them. The previous poster's advice sounds good. If that fail -- well that's when you should start flinging missles at them. It will be bloody, but if you give the Torians a bloody nose their allies might become yours.

Be careful about who the Torians are allied with though. In the game (or at least my version), certain races that I have been in war with never EVER even come above wary on the relations factor...even though I send them technologies beyond their wildest dreams. Then again, I never really have to worry about that kind of thing, I may, in all my games, have a small portion of the galaxy, I always have an invincible military and technology that outstretches that of every single race...so I am always set up good...

I was in a similar situation last night, but against the humans. comps can sure amass a large, powerful fleet if given the time.

Anyway, my military was totally outnumbered. I knew this before hand and decided to do something before it was too late. Most of the galaxies current ships (including the large earthling cruisers) were massive cannon/armour dreadnaughts. I quickly allocated my research points into laser weapons and teched up the tree like a crazy mofo.

After about 10 turns I had my level 5 lasers. The earthlings were closing in, these would have to do for now. I straight out purchased (costed an arm and a leg mind you) 4 heavy laser/armour based destroyers and brought the fleet into battle. The results were astounding, I could take down entire fleets of their dreadnaughts with only a few of these laser ships.

The tides of the war turned very quickly, and the humans ended up surrendering to me (after being totally crushed of course ) Their allies crumbling shortly thereafter.

It was a damn satisfying game

Try paying the weakest of the other alliance to attack one of your allies (strongest). Often a alliance member won't join thier ally if they are the aggressor (and since you demanded it it shouldn't require to to fight).

Or, momentarily step out of your alliances, pick a fight between the sides, then join up once the Torian fleets are commited esle where.

You could consider going for an alternate victory. Since you already have a huge influence area, I suggest going for the influence victory. Just buy other races influnce star bases and influence mines. And try to put at least one farm on each planet.

If you have a huge tech base, you could also try for the tech victory, but if you have not done that before, it takes an unholy amont of time.

If you are hell bent on slugging it out though, I suggest picking a few key places to put Military starbases up and optimize the fleet assist to counter the Torians favoured weapons. Position those starbases near their best influence planets, and make damn sure you take those away from them. Also keep an eye out for systems with 3 or more planets, since a well placed starbase will help you take all of them. If its late game, you should have no trouble pounding out huge numbers of constructors. Money may be a problem if your not an Evil race though. Also, take note of where their military mines are, and take those out first. Hell, if you can get away with it, just buy the military mines from the Torians if you need to.

Torians, bah, NUKE EM!

Avenge the raping of the planet Hawthrone!

Pretty much, my first huge game, they were my first advarsaries since we shared borders and were both going after a bunch of rich worlds on the galactic rim. they obviously didn't like me colonizing there and declared war soon after the game started, and capture a lot of unportected planets by transport raids, took forever to beat them back.

Hawthorne, was the last planet I colonized, closest to the frontier, by the time I conquered/liberated all the planets behind it, I was so sick of war I decided to let them have it. I only recently recaptured it in a series of alliance honoring war declarations and making peace adn honoring alliances again.

But now i have there homeworld, but the Altarians have surrendered to them...

It's a big alliance war between me, the Iconians, 3 minor races and the Yor (kind the odd man out there) and the Drath and the Torians, and the Acreans that love to attack the Iconians, so I fight them a lot too.

/tangent.

Nuke em!

I think I am going to flip another planet of theirs so the star bases arn't needed any more and then go all out with my precurser ships and heavy battleships to their capital and small colony at the same time while their fleets kill space stations that arn't needed and take a beating with the defenses to boot.

Once they fall if I haven't won then I will crush the remaining races with my allies.

Then me fellow squirrels will rule the galaxy as it should be.
