GalCiv 1.1 BETA 4 REPORTS!

Crashes or severe issues only

It's time to wrap up 1.1 so that everyone else can use it.

At this point, only SEVERE issues (i.e. like a game crash or something that really affects game play) should be mentioned unless it's something NEW.  That means suggestions, pet peeves, etc. should wait until future updates.

 Please download from Stardock Central (in the "free stuff" area) a program called Smart Exception.  When you have it installed, run it and then run the game. IF the game crashes, it will create a file that can be emailed to [email protected] that will tell us literaly what line of code it crashed on. It's even possible that just one solid smartexception report could resolve this completely.

Debug.err reports will NOT tell us where a crash occurs. We need the SmartException.

Beta 4 has passed Stardock's internal QA at this point so as far as they're concerned, it's ready for release.  But we want to run it by you guys as well.

The German files are definitely not adapted in the beta I hope change with the official Patch

Basic Farm - 4mt/week -- 50 production to build
Xeno Farming - 6mt/week -- 100 production to build, 200 research to achieve
Intensive Farming - 8mt/week -- 10 production to build, 2000 research to achieve
Advanced Farming - 8mt/week -- 150 production to build, 4000 research to achieve

As far as I'm concerned, this is a 'crash' bug.......as my brain crashes everytime I try to think about the fact that you've had 4 (4!!!!) beta builds and you STILL haven't remedied this situation.

Had an issue when I was using the GalCiv2 windowblinds desktop (from the Galciv2 downloads page) that the game would not work on my ATI Radeon 600 card. WOuld completely freeze up, with slow mouse movement.

Once I switched back to the regular windows desktop theme all was well.

Also the ATI Catylst driver suite did a similar thing, I had to roll back to the Dell driver set for the ATI card, (which were updated in Feb 06) for the game to work properly.

Some planets (low pq?) gets completly new terrainmaps when reloading a saved game, giving them a very weird look having lots of their buildable tiles in the sea. This one is new to me at least.

AI:s still build 0 attack defenders middle-game (third year). Stops building an old design that has attack and designs a defender with 0 attack which IMO is a severe mistake.
AI:s weapon-research, choice of weapons and weapons adapting still seem bugged.
Research+choice: Most AI:s initially choose missiles. Multiple AI:s still change weapons at the same time even though they have no need to.
Adapting: Lots of AI:s adapted before anyone had any defense at all in my latest game. All of them had missiles and changed to guns. All of them began building worse ships than before, and for no reason at all. This bug can have an crippling effect on an AI.

Rally points seem broken. Some Constructors sometimes just sit next to the planet that built them. Others to go their rally points just fine. Sometimes setting the rally point to

I have been noticing this since the very first beta. It happens randomly every once in a while on a randome planet. After the ship get to orbit it will just sit there.

I have been playing this game without a single problem through all the versions since the day it was released for download. Tonight after upgrading to beta 4 the game crashed to desktop for the first time. I will load smart exception tomorrow.

Umm... no it doesn't. After finding a CTD in beta 4, I started smart exception and recreated the crash. I only saw the windows "send to microsoft" screen. I do see there is a .CRA and .dmp file in the smartexception folder, but not sure if those are the files you need.

Edit: ok...readme file made it sound "automatic." By clicking on the active smart exception icon, the dialog appears.


Basic description of the CTD: Using the cheats, tried to clone a starbase...game crashed. I have seen this in Beta 3, with a constructor, but it was only for the one constructor. At least I really have to look for a way to crash the game.

Problem with ressources placing on the galactic map:
In my current game, I have a military ressource at the exact spot where launched ships came from my planet. Luckily, I was able to build a starbase before someone else claimed it. I wonder what would have happened if I have let another race take the ressource when I would have launched ships from my planet.

This isn't a problem. The ships would pop out on another adjacent square instead.
I have seen it happen when another race has a ship on that specific square.

I just updated to beta 4 and all the menus have no font. I have to guess what the menu buttons are and can't make changes in the options due to no text there either.

No new types of crashes to be seeen from my end, just the typical Autosave crashes when it gets to be late in the game or when your video card gets to warm.

Noticed gameplay bugs for Beta 4

1. A.I. ignores upgradeable tiles, I don't mean ignore as in not upgrade them, I mean ignore as in literally ignore upgrading them and just build stuff right over them.

2. A.I. somehow can build two starports on one planet. Although, it only builds them on the uppgradeable tiles that it won't upgrade as mentioned above.

3. Exploit that allows you to create a ship with either the Trade ability or Construct ability without actually having to keep the modules on the ship. Create a builder/trader as normal, then make an upgraded design for it after at least one is built. Remove the Construction/Trading Module in the upgraded design. The ship will lose the module, but not the ability from it. Doesn't work for survey modules I think.

4. Good changes with the War Party. However, shouldn't the description match the stats instead of being the same description from the previous version of the War Party?

5. Despite having no money left, the A.I. still manages to buy and build ships. Can't prove it, but have seen it.

6. A.I. doesn't always build on every tile. Referring back to bug #1, the A.I. will build farms on those upgradeable tiles that were never upgraded. When you want to decommision these farms, since nobody wants a class 9 with 5 farms, the farm will disappear and the tile will go back to the upgradeable status as expected. However, the production from the farm will not be lost, as in it will still produce the "X" amount of food from that farm. If you look at the Summary window, it will correctly display the production.

7. Class 4 planets seem to only go up to 1.150 billion people, normal? Class 5, maybe 6, only goes to 4.255 billion people, normal as well?

8. What does that number in parenthesis next to the influence points mean? If it gets above 4, planets tend to want to revolt. The current record for an A.I. planet is 1015 in those parenthesis (A Torian planet) and still not revolting. This was in Beta 3 for me. In Beta 4, I currently have made an A.I. planet go to 22.52 without revolting for a few turns.

9. Rankings are still screwed up for the overall ranking. Near the end of one game for Beta 3, I was 1st in EVERYTHING except popularity where I was 3rd of 3, yet we all had the same score since we were all allied with each other. Despite being first in everything and tied for first with popularity, it displayed me as being 3rd of 3 overall.

More to come, I've only played one game with Beta 4 and am only 3 years into that one.

The only issue I have is that I can't get SmartException to install off of SDC. It sits at the Downloading 0% screen and remains there indefinitely. Once I figure that out, it'll be too late anyway, so why am I posting really?

i don't know if this has been posted, but as far as weapons go, i'm getting quite a few misrepresentations of size for the component. example being a graviton driver 4, while the stated size is 7 for a large hull, it only takes up 6 when you put it on. And the nano ripper, damage was reported reduced to 5, yet it still reads 6. Also, sometimes now when i design ships, i can have 6 size points left, and add a size 8 weapon, or have say 9 size points left, but not be able to add a 6 point weapon. I've never seen this prior to 1.1(B4).

You cannot select build "NOTHING" from the build-queue on the main star-map. It doesn't work anymore, so every time you want to idle a starport you need to open the planet, and do it in the shipyard screen Very annoying, and is new with Beta 4.

hmm D/L the beta today and the only thing i really REALLY noticed (dont know if its a bug or what but its a total pain in the ass) is that its taking forever to generate a new game with Ctrl-N now. used to be less than ......... ohh 5 or 6 seconds, now its upwords of 45 seconds to a minute. i sure hope that its a bug because given the huge numbers of truly crappy starts the game generates, what with all the other flaws of it ignoring little things like the number of suns you set ( 10 suns on a huge map? ) or having half the sectors empty and the other half jamed with 2-3 and even 4- stars each on a scattered setting.

hard to tell though since it seems too actualy be generating the galaxy you asked for with the beta (IE abundant planets and abundant habital now give you atleast 2 planets per sun that are usable) something that ive yet to see. the 1.0X build it was random, sometimes 3 or 4 planets per sun sometimes 6 or 7 suns with baren rocks, changin the scarse/abundant picks didnt do anything that i could notice.

anyhow i hope that this ctrl-N taking a full minute to load a new galaxy is just a bug and not going to be the norm now.

there are two mixed up ids und the current beta (b4)

TechTree.xml:
[Culture ID="Advanced Trade"]
PlanetImprovements.xml:

The name/id should be the same, otherwise this building is unbuildable

TechTree.xml:

I have a Disappearing Turn Button issue with a game that I've played from Beta-2 on. The turn button shows green, I click on it, my ships move, and then it seems to hang during opponent move. I've tried going back to the autosave, but that didn't seem to resolve the problem. I'm happy to send along the save game, or do whatever other debug steps are needed...

I have a GeForce 5200 on an AMD XP64 system

Two of the cargo hulls from the Alterian ship set do not show up on the hulls list. The ones used for the core trade, and core transport (nice work on the transport btw).

The Thalens were able to offer in trade space weapons and missle weapons but did not have space militarization. Either the AI can skip pre-req tech, or they got it in trade. In trade, it should not even show a tech if you/they don't have the pre-req for it. There is an exploit there too. I traded impulse engines to the Drath for miniballs3 along with the pre-reqs all the way down to mass driver theroy. I was returned a green response with just MB3. I could have skipped the pre-reqs. Might also explain why the AI goes with an abundance of missles (from what I have read). If a trade happy AI gets missles and can spam it around without the pre-reqs.....
