Thats nice. But all those SB right next to each other make the whole thing look suspect. Mod your game a bit?

Thats legit. 4 / sector is new rule. that's why there in 2 straight lines right on the other side of the edge. (i think)

So they removed the within 3 parsec of another starbase limit?

Ah, ok. I knew they made it a 4 per sector limit, but didn't know they tossed the spacing limit with it as well.
I guess part of it is galaxy settings. I don't use abundant anything (common, common, occasional) and large galaxies. I would not complain about that many good planets in my start sector, if that sector was under a school desk. But I also don't care for end game MM when you have 150+ planets (so i don't choose those settings)

The ironic thing, is I am starting a new game, and I got a corner start. And it is not doing anything to improve my opinion of them (corner starts). I'll give it an "E" for effort tho. It had 3 bonus tiles on it. a 100 food, a morale, and a 100 indust. If I were wanting to play a one system challange, this would be the perfect start. hmmmmm ( I really am not that good at the game yet). If the game didn't autosave the start, it's moot.

To bad Im at my work computer otherwise I would post a screen shot but the best start I ever had was 1 Precursor Mine (+700% Minerals), 2 Exotic Mineral Deposits (+300% Minerals each for a total of +600%) and 1 Precursor Artifact (+300%). I had this when I chose the Industrialist Party and maxed out all my social and military production abilities. Suffice it to say I was pumping out colony ships every 2 turns right from the start.

Yes the SB are overpowering, if you notice 4 per sector I can set it so most of my planets are within range of 8 bases, that's 400% Research/econ/industry per planet.

THis corner setup was actually pretty good, it's like the computer knows you are stuck in the corner so most of those planets were pq14+ from the start. Also I used the minor race as my trading partner, all my freighters passed through the range of all my bases hehehe. If I had time I would have put military bases on the outside rim where my ships are, spaced out perfectly.

Uhh, corners suck because they make it too easy, even without exploiting starbases.
I prefer to be somewhat in the middle of the map with enemies on all sides.

i don't know why you don't just go for a research victory.
