Aberrant performance midgame? Anyone else?

I wasn't sure where to put this, but I guess bug reports will do.

My computer meets the minimum and "recommended" system requirements on the box, but around midgame the scroll and overall performance becomes sluggish to the point where the game is not even playable. I have tried to disable the various video options, and nothing seems to work. Even turning EVERYTHING off fails to work and the performance issue remains.

My computer is pretty mediocre by many standards. It's a 1.7 athlon mobile with a 256 meg video card (Geforce 6600) and around 1.5gb of ram.

There are a few odd things I've noticed. When the camera is perfectly still, the framerate shoots up to acceptable, even good...but when it starts moving, look out. I've also noticed that more planets seem to exacerbate the problem, and I figured that I should just try a smaller map since my computer apparently "sucked"....didn't really work. Even on medium maps with common planets/stars, the issue remains and is totally suck.

If anyone has any input, any would be good. Honestly I'm at a loss, here. (I'm leaning toward the processor being the culprit for some reason, either not supporting something the game has...or something)

Additionally: I have tried playing the game with fewer planets to no effect. I am currently using the latest patch, but I'm not sure if I can get an accurate frame of reference on the topic of it being a "patch issue", being that I updated immediately after I got the game.

Can you post the debug.err log located in your main game folder?

I hope this is the correct information. (I sanitized a few names here and there. Nothing pertinent) - I also have Kryo's hull mod installed, but I think this is largely irrelevent...
