Faction I cant attack

I spent ages amassing several fleets on my border with the Kox ready for an attack, when I felt the time was ready I sent my fleets to attack their outlying colonies. To my dismay however I found that I was mysteriously allied with them! I dont recall ever accepting an alliance with them and I cant find any way to break this alliance (there is only a trade embargo option). My relations with them are neutral. I am also only able to make and break alliances with a few of the other factions but not all of them. Strangely enough I am able to ally with two of the three factions at war with the korx and they dont seem to mind me being allied with their greatest enemy as well as themselves.

I dont know if anyone else has had this problem so if anyone has any idea how to fix this problem or if there is a way to declare war without physically attcking something I would greatly appreciate it. The galaxy is pretty boring when im not at war!

Just attack them. There is no way to declare war otherwise (this is against anyone, not just allies). Alliances don't prevent you from attacking your partner any time you want to.

Allainces are more for getting a diplo victory or better trading/diplo bargains however; that said there is a UP resolution that lets you get the benefits of your partners starbases if you are lucky enough to get it.

The Ai really doesn't care if you are allied with those at war with them, as long as you are not at war with them.

There should be a box to break the alliance without attacking them for Major Civs in the foriegn relatios scren though. What version are you running?

Im running 1.1 b3 (the latest 1 I updated tody). It must be a bug as there is no option to cancel the alliance (the cancel alliance checkbox is the trade embargo checkbox). After playing for a little longer after posting the issue I recieved a message saying that another faction had declared war on the Kox and I had the coice whether to go to war or not (thus saving my alliance with the Kox). Naturally I chose not to stick by the Kox but as far as the game was concerned I was still allied with the kox, the treaties Tab has a green arrow running between our two badges. Its all very strange.

To be clear, Is that Beta 3A? .015 at the end of the build number.

Can you post a debug.err log? You should also download SmartException software in the Misc section on Star Dock Central and run it before starting the game. It will record stuff that you can email to SD bug support.

Im running 1.10[b3].015. The version was automatically installed when I ran the stardock center today so I assume its the most up to date version. Ill also try running the smart exception software tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Yes, actually, alliances do prevent you from attacking your ally. You have to break the alliance on the negotiations screen however he reported that he cannot (you can't see embargo if you are able to break the alliance the checkbox is in the same spot). This was an old bug fixed in one patch or another where one side would have an alliance and the other would not. You can break the alliance using the cheat parameter, if it isn't metaverse then it shouldn't matter to you. That is my only suggestion.

Chuck is correct. You have to break the alliance. It's in the same place the embargo button is. (You can't embargo your allies, duh!)

i didnt knw that you could actually break alliances without attacking. I would have to try this at home later. I originally agreed with statesman that you could just attack (right click) on an enemy unit and the war would begin. I think i tried this back when i had the boxed version 1.0.0...

What I have here is a bug. I have tried every way to break this alliance. I have no break alliance option on the race relations pane, instead I have a trade embargo option. When other factions go to war with the faction I am 'allied' with and I select NO from the option to side with my 'allies' my illusionary alliance remains.

For all intents and purposes I am not allied with this faction. My relation with them is Neutral, I am allied with factions that they are at war with and I have a trade embargo on them. So why does the game still maintain that I am allied with this faction? Im the worst 'ally' ever!

Could someone please elaborate the cheat parameters for me so I can fix this myself.

Also I should add that is problem occurred before I updated the game to the most recent version. Would this mean that the patch should fix future occurences of this phenomenon but only if I restarted my game. Meaning that my only alternative is to cheat? Or has this issue not been addressed by the recent patch?
