Ship Range - Bug?

Alright, im playing a game on the largest galaxy size, my territory is located in the lower left of the map and ive come to a stage where I am sending out Freighters to start trading.
Now the thing is that I have one freighter with maximum range of 10 sectors (or whatever the unit is).. I reached the maximum range of the ship but the race I wanted to trade with was still out of reach. So I decided to replace the two engines on my freigther with life support modules, I designed the new ship with a range of 19 (compared to 10 for the old one) and upgraded the freighter.
The thing is that even after the upgrade the maximum range is the same.. the line indicating the maximum range of the ship is still in the same spot and I cannot travel beyond it.
I have upgraded the ship, it clearly reads 19 sector range on the ship, and I have the latest patch (updated this morning), maybe there is something im missing when it comes to how range works.. if so can someone please enlighten me.. if not, then I assume its a bug?

Regards

Did you save the game after making the new ship? Did youuse a new name for the upgraded ship? If so, you cold have issues. Since the save games contain the ship models, as well as the ships in the ship folder, it may be confused. Try saving and restarting the game to see if that helps. It would be helpful to see your debug.err log too.

I don't recall having this issue. But there may be a problem recalculating the range.

BTW, another way to increase range is to build starbases closer to your destination. You don't have to equip them if you don't want to either - just their presence increases the range as the ships will calculate their max range from the nearest planet or starbase.

Hi again..

Yeah, ive saved the game after I made the new ship.. I also designing 3 other ships with various ranges just to try and update the same ship to the new models, but the actual range remained the same for the ship... Worth noting is that this is not only happening to one ship.. all my ships have the same problem.

Im not sure what you mean with a new name... the old design is called Freighter 2, and the new design is Freighter 2 LR.. but the actual name of the ship is the same.

Ive saved and restarted the game several times, but the issue still remain.

I know about extending your range with starbases.. but I dont want to build a constructor, move it half way across the universe and build a starbase only to extend my range when the reason I cant move further in the first place is a bug..

How do I paste a debug.err? And how do I get info into the file? Cause the game dont crash, it works perfect.. I just cant move...

Another thing worth mentioning is that some star types are invisible to me, which ones im not sure.. as they are invisible

Ive only had these problems with the last patch.

Edit: I guess it takes awhile for the database to update, so I posted a new thread. My apologies.

did you remember to actually select the freighter? having another ship selected can easily cause a deception.

Also did you physically try moving the freighter to whare you want? if you get the stupid out of range message then it is a problem.

Hi!
I designed the new ship with a range of 19 (compared to 10 for the old one) and upgraded the freighter.

That will not help. There's a hard-coded cap of 7 sectors max range. If you want to go further, you need to build starbase(s) along the way.

Although I posted this problem elsewhere, your answer solved my puzzlement. Thanks Iztok!
