Tweaks to Covert Ops

First I must say, this is one fantastic game. Congrats to Stardock on all of the great reviews, the game absolutely deserves it.

My suggestion has to do with how intelligence operations occur in the game. I overall like the way it happens, with you setting a budget for covert ops for each civilizations and gradually you penetrate deeper into that civilization. However, it doesn't seem to make sense that once you have reached an advanced level of intelligence information, that you can stop spending money on covert ops and still keep the same high level of intelligence that you worked up to. Naturally enemy governments are doing counterintelligence to find how they have been compromised and would begin to counter your intelligence operations.

Why not have your level of intelligence on each civilizations gradually degrade if you stop funding covert ops in that nation. I think it is a bit more realistic and would add more strategy into planning for wars.

Wait for the expansion, but I don't think dropping spending after maxed out would lower it. 60% of their government are your spies after all, they really are screwed as far as not being seen by you.

What I love is getting to "Advanced" in 2 turns.

Frogboy has said that their will be additions to espionage such as spys in the Expansion pack.

I don't know what Frogboy has said on this, but will there be options to carry out a variety espionage missions? For example, will we be able to focus efforts on tech stealing, sabotage, or inciting dissent?

No-one is quite sure yet (except possibly the dev's). However, he has said about specific agents wreaking havoc, counter espionage, and terror stars, as well as a campaign as the Drengin.

So, I'm buying it

I reckon that needs to be nerfed.

Seriously, Just as Rome wasent built in a day, The Altarian government wasent brought out in two weeks by someone with a frigging large budget.

There should be a limit on how much you can spend on espionage per race.

You mean this whole time I could turn off spending after I reach advance and I will still get the random stolen tech?

Hmm.. as far as the whole thing goes, I think Space Empires had a nice system. Intelligence buildings produce intel points which could be spent on different covert missions. That is after you researched how to do those

I think it would be relatively easy to implement and Stardock could put their own spin on things.

I thought MOO way was just ok.

well thats my 2 bc

Perhaps if there was a counter-espionage slider, so that you could spend money reducing the amount that the others knew about you... Surely that wouldn't be hard to implement?

No it doesn't. I'm the drath, and get a huge espionage bonus. If I'm spending 5k a turn plus 50% bonus, I deserve two turns
