I can't believe this...

Altarian stupidity abound

I made a scenario and have been trying it out for a bit. Seemed to be good till I saw something. Playing with 4, teams of two.
My team mate, the Altarian's seem to keep making more and more freighters. It's got to the point where it is nothing less than insane. I'm pretty much in the middle of the galaxy toward the bottom, the Drengin are at my border to the northeast, Altarian's in the southeast corner, and the Yor in the northwest corner (I think).

Now when I say the Altarian's are making more and more freighters I'm not just talking a handful here, before I quit to take a break (and write this) they had no less than 50 of them swarming through my territory. Granted, they did have a few trade routes open, with minor races and not me, but holy hell. There is so much light blue in my area that most of the space is covered. Crazy stuff.

So, what's the difficulty? You do know the rule about commenting on AI stupidity below Intelligent right? Anyway, those funky Altarians, how froody of them. Crush them.

Ho-ly sh--.

That's about all I can say.

Dear god that's strange. They aren't calling any information about their current fleets by the look of it, so are spamming freighters. I've never seen this before, in games or thread. Damn thing never ceases to amaze me, this must be one of those AI decisions DoDumbThing() that got implemented.

Well, the good news is, with that economy and the systems under your control, you're probably ready to step up to challenging or tough . So, if you muck about on that and see if they do it again, it'd be great.

Either way, could we see a debug.err?

i've seen AI build tons of frighters on suicidal. I almost had to abandon the game since turns were taking 2-3 minutes for all the ships to move.

building a military and killing everything in sight quickly solved that problem.

This has happend to me too many times to count. It is almost always the Altarians when they are NOT at war with anyone. Sometimes it's the Arceans and same when they are not at war. It gets rediculous waiting for the End Turn to run, so like the others I go to war, nerf their freighters, and then do a peacy treaty. For some reason that *Usually* snaps them out of it. This has been happening since Beta 1 for me.

Crazy, huh? I'd be annoyed if it wasn't so funny. Sad thing is that game started off great too. The way the galaxy was setup, etc. but think I'm gonna have to scrap it. Seeing as how I'm teamed with the Altarians I don't think I can do much about it. Then again we are at war, see the Drengin ships moving in? Maybe they'll take care of the problem.

P.S. How do I post the debug?

You know the Drengin, they love the pink skinned ones

I just did a rundown of what they had in the trade screen, here it is:
78 Freighters(move than I even thought), 1 survey ship, 19 colony ships, 17 defenders, 1 fighter, 6 scout ships, 3 troop transports, 1 economy starbase, 1 influence starbase, 5 military starbases, and 5 mining starbases.

I am really at a loss for words. Btw, there are actually a lot more freighters around my planets than you can see, pulled back all the way some are over lapping each other. This is just too much.

Wow. 19million people, just floating about in space.
Well, I'm off for a bit *Gets into dreadnaught*

I've seen the Arceans do this, though not to that extent. If they'd built constructors instead, they could have covered every inch of every trade route with mulitple Economy Starbases and been rolling in dough.

I can't believe I'm seeing all those anomolies still around & resources that don't look like they have SB's on them??

I had a game I played last night where I was able to suck up 6 out of the 8 resources...the AI doesn't seem to be interested in them as much as they were before.

If you don't care too much about the Altarians, you could wipe them out and all their ships won't be around to lag you

It WOULD be a good strategy for getting fleets into place... Pile up freighters somewhere, then upgrade them en mass.

I'm afraid you're about to fall for an old Alterian rouse. You think those are freighters... but they're not.

Build a couple of one shot wonder ships (one laser, rest engines, transport hull), place them strategically for a single massive assualt, and then gift them to whatever AI is at war with them. Don't wait for the Drengin to get on the same page, put them there yourself.

edit in: don't forget to make sure they have enough range for the new owner to be able to use them
