Trade Routes

Ability Bonuses

I've never tried to use the ability bonus "Trade Routes" till now, after looking at the xml file a bit and playing with it. The bonus doesn't seem to do anything though. How does it work? Isn't it suppose to give you more trade routes? If not what does it do? If it is suppose to give you more routes I don't get how it works since the bonus is listed as a % and not a number.

Page 11 inthe manual.

"Trade Routes increases the number of trade routes your civilization can maintain."

If you get 25% more routes, than if the Base route number is 4 you get 1 more. 4 + (4*25%) = 5.

It seems like something is wrong with it then. It's listed as 1, 2, and 3. So you wouldn't get anything. If you had 10 for example 10 + 3% is still 10. I really don't get it. Seem like what was ment to happen is you get either 1, 2, or 3 more routes by picking them but that's not how it works. It ends up being a % that does nothing. The bouns is listed in the file as a % too so it's confusing. On the other hand the speed bonus doesn't seem to work for me either. The bouns is listed as pc and not a % so when you pick +1 you should get an extra 1 pc in speed, right? Not working. It's being listed as a % as a boost too. Everything else, as far as I can tell, works fine.

10% = 1.

He's saying that if you have 10 trade routes, not 10%. 10 * 3% = .3 extra trade routes. Or for the actual game 4 * 3% = .12 trade routes. Seeing as how fractions are rounded down....10.3 = 10 and 4.12 = 4

Errr, the bonus is working correctly.

The problem is that the bonus is not labeled correctly. Instead of saying +1 trade routes, it says +1% trade routes. This is a common thing in GalCiv games, to put % in bonuses where a % does not belong. For example infleunce starbases modules may say it gives +7% influence, but it really gives +7 influence to that starbase.

Dunno about the speed bonus, I used that only once and I think I remember it working correctly. Easy enough to test it out for yourself, start a game without the bonus, check your basic speed on your first colony ship made then start a 2nd game with the +speed bonus. Might not work on your 2 starter ships since those are given to you at the beginning.

This must be really confusing for new players. At least it took me some time to figure out. Stardock should fix this asap, as it doesn't seem so difficult to take out that % from where it doesn't belong and would really help clear things up.

I think the speed bonus gives all your ships one extra move/turn. I have taken it a few times but it's not really very good in large maps because it's not very powerful in late game. In small maps getting those few extra planets can really make a difference.

I think I got it . I am getting the extra speed or routes now. Don't really know why it wasn't working before but it now. Could have messed up something in the xml file, I suppose. The trade routes really threw me with the % value though. With +3 extra routes when I get trade I end up having 4 opens, with +1 I end up having 2. But I'm still a little confused. In the research window it says you get +3 trade routes with the tech so with a +3 bonus to boot woudln't you end up with 6 opens? Doesn't really matter, just kinda wierd. I wish some of this stuff was labled better, would help a moron like me. Now I can finally play the scenario I've been working on. Thanks everyone.

P.S. Anyone know how the sensor bonus works? Now that I still don't get.

Really? It's listed as a % too so I was wondering. I tried the 3 bonus but didn't really notice a differance. Thanks.
