Mods

How to

I'm knew to modding and computer gaming. I used to play consoles but am now making the switch and loving that decission. I need help with where to put files when downloading the mods. I saved the game in program files, but everything says to put "this file" (klingon mod, etc.) into my documents/my games/ galciv2/ships. I can't find this ships . Is it the ships.xml in the metaverse ships? Do I want to replace this file? Anyone who could help with directions for the first mod so that i could finish would be nice. Also I'm a huge trekkie so if someone could give me the name and some basic directions of a modder program I would love to make the Ferrengi, DS9, and Enterprise, maybe even the Romulans and past ships with enough time. Thanx.

You unzip the file into the directory it says. Information on how to use the modding folders will be released when they are fully functional (probably with the official release of v1.1)

GC2builder http://www.gc2builder.com is a utility in development that will assist in modding the xml data. You can currently create new maps and scenarios.

There are many 3D modeling programs out there, but I don't know anything about them. From what i've read on the forums, Blender and 3Dstudio seem to be the most popular and compatible for creating new GalCiv2 models. There is also a download in the library with samples.

Thank you. I'm still having trouble with where to put the files. Like i said i don't have a ships file. Any clues? The rest was great. I love the editor. My new game in my own universe is awesome.

To clarify, "ships" is a directory, not a file. You have a standard "Documents" directory in Windows. There's a "My Games" folder in it. There's a "galcivs2" directory within that. That's where you'll find the "ships" directory within which to put your new files.

I found the "directory." Sorry for the misuse of a lable. Language is only a tool to comunicate an idea. obviously my missuse of the computer lingo was still an effective use of language on a whole scince you were so aptly able to identify my problem and give me pointers. next time try to make an attempt not to be so smug in your own personal inteligence in one area and instead try to grow as a person in many different fields of knowledge. I didn't realize that when i DLed v1.1 that i had to play another game to get my ships back. i had some cool ones that i lost. At any rate i found the files and now all the mods work. i created my own map and played it. now i would like to start modding ships and races. if anyone could give me info on the software necessary and some quick steps to begin i would appreciate it. thatnk you alll for your help even if the tone was a bit condessing toward a newb.
