GalTrek™: The Shuttle

I’ve spend a lot of time optimizing the Defiant, so I wanted to work on something small. Here is the third installment in the GalTrek series, the Shuttle.

The Shuttle

(Click thumbnail images for larger version)

At a little under 3000 triangles, this model is certainly usable by everyone. I’ve optimized the original mesh, added an area shadow lighting pass, and gave the hull some glow from the nacelles. I collapsed the defuse material and lighting into a base texture, and a self-illuminated texture, capable of being imported in GalCiv2. I didn’t bother with normal mapping for such a small model.

Bellow you can see the model in the game engine. Note that I have imported it as a large ship hull, so it is unusually large in the game for a “shuttlecraft”, which will eventually probably fit into the “tiny” ship class.

Any ship suggestions, or advice for which ship should be in which class, let me know. So far I have:

Cargo:?
Tiny:Shuttle (<10m)
Small:?
Medium: Magellan (?m) [link to my thread],
NX (225m),
Defiant (120m) [link to my thread]
Large: Intrepid (344m),
Excelsior (467m),
Prometheus (414m),
Huge: Galaxy (643m),
Sovereign (685m),

The Defiant should probably go into small if we are considering only size, but it would be wrong to give the Defiant such a small number of HP.

If you are interested in using this model pack, please post a reply on this thread. I want to see how many folks actually care : )

Cheers.

The ship designs look great so far! I look forward to the release.

As for other ships, how about the Miranda or Oberth class ships for the "Small Class?"

Also, I think that keeping the Defiant at "Medium" is a good move.

I would have said IMHO the Oberth and Miranda are a bit old for the timeframe of the others.

The Delta Flyer or the Raven might fit though. Or a Danube class runabout? I would love a model of a runabout anyway. They are just the bee's knee's

looking good, i alomst fell out of my chair at seeing that shuttle, it was just amazing, great work, like i said about the defiant, its just great stuff

But when I look at it again I suppose the NX class is probably a bit dated lol. Ignore my last bit then sorry. I just find the TOS era ships a tad dull compared to the newer (CGI) designs but I suppose that is just my prejudices. Some of the oldies are quite pretty.

Looks good, keep up the good work!

I would love to use it. Albiet I think I am going to wait until the release of 1.1, so that it is easy to switch between modded and unmodded games. Anyway, great work! I don't really recognise the first two that you made. (I think the defiant was that ship designed to attack the borg, but I don't really remember.) But they are cool, nonetheless.

Great job. The shuttlecraft definately looks great.

Well, the time is the 23rd century so TOS might be best.

I'd probably suggest something like a Steamrunner class ship to go with the Defiant class as a medium ship, instead of the NX ship to keep it within the same time-line and technology base.

I'd probably suggest the Nebula Class to replace the Excelsior class too...?

As for the Oberth class - the later equivalent of that was the Nova class... (Small?)

Maybe a Runabout for the cargo ship?

(Star Trek Fact Files anyone? ).

I would love to do a Runabout, but with what I have available, optimization would be a total pain in the arse. I do plan on putting in a Delta flyer, which will probably be my next project. Galaxy would most likely come next after that.

Very well donr, I'm looking forward to using this once its complete! How about these classes of ships:

Small - Akira or Steam runner or Nova class ?

Cargo class has me stuped though

Anywho you rock!!

I take that back, A steam runner class would make a pretty good cargo hull!

should things not be made so that we could 'build' out on ships? instead of preebuilt

All ships have mount points, so you can add whatever you'd like. However the GalCiv stuff might look a little out of place.

Well, the intention of this model pack is to bring movie quality ships into GalCiv2. There is no way you will get that feel if all the parts were generic enough to fit together. They normal GalCiv2 ships snap together in the ship builder, which is awesome, but the ships definately do NOT look like movie quality. If you want to build star trek ships yourself in GalCiv2, then fool around with the existing ship builder material.

I won't play with this pack, but for the love of Masterchief Enzo, complete it and release it. Mods must be encouraged!

have to admit, your defiant really is awesome, and i think you're right about size..... yes the defiant is a tiny ship, especially in comparison to the soveriegn, but it packed an amazing amount of fire power and was one tough ship, i remember when it first appeared in DS9 they said they could run it at full power because it would tear its self apart.

just saw an achilles class Link

might make for a cool ship. also once you do finish all these ships if you'd be willing to tackle a battlestar I have textures already for a full galactica model and could provide them to you if you'd be willing to give it a shot, ive been trying to look at 3d max, but its a bit over my head

I WANT IT!

ps.: please

I really adore the Battlestar Galactica as a model in the game! Please do it! Please That would be enormous! Is it possible to add something like a device to send out tiny ships? Like the Galactica does in the movies?

One small question: Where do I download the StarTrek ships like the shuttle and the defiant?

The Sirius - Download the game models or raw meshes? I am not sure where I will post this pack yet. There are a few affiliated download portals for GalCiv2.

If you mean the raw meshes, then there are a number of locations on the net that offer them. Google.
