Ship Design Upgrades Suggestion

With the last patch ship design upgrades have become much easier; however, I think one more change is needed. In the row at the top where it shows ship components make it so if I click on a component that has an upgrade available a little upgrade button becomes available. If this button is clicked on, the component is upgraded but keep in the same location and the same size. For example I’ve built a ship with Laser I but have researched up to Laser V. I select that ship model for upgrades and on the upgrade screen I click on the Laser I tile at the top. Once selected, an upgrade button appears. I click on this upgrade button and the Laser I is upgraded to a Laser II and the upgrade button remains active. If I continue to click on it, it will keep upgrading until I reach Laser V at which time the upgrade button goes away.

Or not. You have to remove the thing first or the computer would get confused. It's not worth the effort of coding, especially since when you upgrade you get weapons stripped away, which means you would only save about 10 clicks for 5 weapons.

There is a new option with the patch that does not strip off the weapons, sensors and armor. With this option the computer will not get confused. It knows the location, size and facing, all it has to do is remove the old and replace with the new. I not only wish to save clicks but brainpower. As it is right now, you can only tell what type of weapon, sensor and armor a ship has by the graphic. I can't tell the difference from a Sensor I and a Sensor II. Now I have to remove the sensor and replace it just to make sure I have the latest. Also, the sensor and the shield use the same graphic so you can't tell which one you are removing until you remove it. With my option you would know right away which item you've selected and if it had an upgrade ready to go.

@ Marcathonas - FYI In the newest builds you have the option whether or not you want the components stripped when upgrading. It is in the Interface Option menu under the Main Menu. You can change this in game - it is great - now if you want to upgrade every component you can, or if you only want to pick and choose which of the original components you want to upgrade and leave the rest you can. Best of both worlds.

Actually I think the OP's suggestion is a good one - I would not expect to see it anytime soon however.
