Glitch with Shild Building, not ship design 1.1 Beta 3

Very nice glitch.

Beta 3 Ship building.

Tested with 3 different races, the Terran, Aterian and Custome:

If you select "Build Nothing" from the ship building menu on a planet, you will be building the Ranger in its full glory right out of the batch. Nice!!

Also, designs are now auto-obsoleted when upgraded. This is a huge issue for those who like to use ship templates.

Well, why not duplicate the ship file and just upgrade the next one, and do that every time.
Correct me if I'm wrong

LOL...I played last night and kept watching my templates dissapear. I just kept thinking I hit obsolete by accident...

Does this happen all the time? I have not been able to reproduce it. Do you have a saved game we could look at? If so, please e-mail it with your debug.err file (in your galciv2 folder) to [email protected]

Thank you.

Also, the auto-obsolete has been removed now.

Well, I tried to reproduce this one, here I come up with:

- This bug only appear when you starts a new game. Meaning after your start the game, quit and reload, you wont see the ranger any more.

- Even though it's listing you can not build or buy it (not in my game). When you select "Build Nothing" althouth the menu give you the ship and the turn, it's not queue into the shipyard, neither pressing the buy button do anything. So look like it's a UI problem

- So it won't help if I send you a save file since once you reload, it's gone. But it's easy enough, just hit a new game. For the record I'm playing on Touch, Huge galaxy with everything set to common, Tight Cluster and Fast Technology.

satthukaraoke,

Please try this:

1. Rename your My Documents/My Games/Galciv2/ folder.
2. Start Galciv2 and go to the Options screen from the main menu
3. Disable Mods in the Options screen
4. Start a new game.

This will regenerate your my documents/my games/galciv2 folder with default data. Please try this and let us know if you still have the Ranger problem or not.

If you still encounter the problem after trying that, please zip up the folder you renamed, and email it to us at [email protected] along with your debug.err file (in your galciv2 program folder)

Thank you.

ALSO!! Create a new ship, components take up the specified amount of space. Now upgrade ship, any ship, the components only take up 1/2 of the specified space!

CodeCritter,
regarding your statement that "Also, the auto-obsolete has been removed now," is this for the next patch? I am playing the latest beta (1.10[b3].014) and the auto-obsolete is still happening.

I agree with the other poster regarding the use of ship templates. Having the original disappear is a real pain!

Tried, it's still there. I renamed the Galciv2 folder (to galciv2 - rename) and after starting the game it did generate another one, but the ranger is still there. Mod disable (both before and after restart the game). For credential perpose I include this screenshot.

As you can see:

+ the time is Jan First 2225. The first turn of the game
+ As Terran with 5000 population and 5000bc, the map is not yet explored

And here is another thing. It appears it only appear if you select the build nothing from the main Map interface (the one when you select a planet and have the build ship on bottom to right next to the minimap). If you actually go inside the planet and use the build interface from there, the ranger doesn't appear.

I'll go ahead and send the rename folder with the debug for you. Not sure if you find something though as I said, the new generated folder still have the ranger and I never installed any mod.

It is?I just installed Beta 3 last night and played and it wiped all all exsisting previous versions of the ships I upgraded.I'd say that more than a small problem because it left my territory almost completely defensless since almost all the ships defending my planets were the old designs.Or are you refering to the next beta release?
At any rate that needs to be fixed.I think its even more wierd considering the updated versions were given new names so weren't even a an actual overwrite of the exsisting model.Heh I think its safe to say i'm going to lose the war I was currently engaged in since my military rating went from being the highest to almost zero with the mere upgrading of design of just 2 ships in a single turn.

Same question here, is it removed in the current available 1.01b3.014 version ?
Or should there be a newer one ?
Cause for me it's still auto-obsoleting my design after upgrade.

Well obviously it isn't that one is it?

Thanks, satthukaraoke, for trying that. I've made a change in the code that should fix the problem you and some others are experiencing.

I have not seen this problem. Is it possible your miniaturization ability has changed in the time between designing the ship and upgrading it? If not, can you give steps to reproduce it?

About auto-obsolete: It doesn't look like my change made it into the 1.10[b3].014 version. Next version will have it though.

Thanks for info, hopefully assuming it to be released before Easter.

@Zor
Problems with upgrading to the same name are known.
Therefore you are told in Beta3 (before I don't know) that it's not recommended to do so.
Perhaps it's gonna be patched too.

Greetings.

Another bug report related to shipbuilding.

With any of the new 1.1 betas, I cannot see any of my previous customized ship designs (done with v1.0X). But if I add a new ship design in 1.1b, with the same name as a previously saved one, when I save the game, and then reload it, all ships already built of this class have been converted from the new 1.1b design to the old 1.0X designs. Just happened to me with a massive fleet of Huge ships, converted to a ridiculous fleet of Tiny useless junk...

New ship designs DO NOT show up in the research tree when selecting the requiered tech for races other than terrans.

ie: Select Yor as starting race. Select lasers in Tech tree. New ship design -Star Fury DOES NOT appear.

Shows up if you are the Terrans though

1.10[b3].015 (Beta3 A) just released yesterday has the Auto-obsolete bug fixed.
