The SciFi Channel gives Galactic Civilizations II an A+

Strong AI, good UI, and deep game play

http://www.scifi.com/sfw/games/sfw12475.html

SciFi.com has put up their review of Galactic Civilizations II. And we're pleased to say that they loved it!

The A+ is almost enough to make better able to cope with having to wait until next October to find out what happens to the Colonials on Battlestar Galactica (let alone July to find out what happened on SG1 but that's another issue).

The review covers the AI, the user interface, the campaign and much more.

Check out the whole thing.

I'd find it funnier if they started featuring CGI ships created using GC2's ship creater/design feature.

Oy? Did I hear a BSG reference there? Brad, maybe you should join the Colonial Fleet... Link

Anyway, nice to see you guys getting all those rewards, you earned it big time! SO SAY WE ALL!!!

What is up with this last season and "To be continued..."

Aren't Season Finale's supposed to have closure of some sort? I got 0/3 closure... that sucks man...

By the way. Great job on GC2's reviews... seems like a steady flow of love.

No. No, it's not. Not even close.

I'd be willing for them to give it an F- if it would give us BSG just one month sooner. Granted, I'd be willing to have GC2 sucked into a temporal anomaly that removes its very existence from all possible quantum universes to get BSG 2 months sooner.

Actually, the "BSG" scale might be an interesting way to rate videogames. Rather than giving a number, you say what the minimum time closer to BSG's 3rd season has to be before you'd be willing to accept that the videogame in question never existed. I imagine that, for most games, it would be a day or so. Maybe a week for some.

Zelda Ocarina of Time would rate on such a scale that I would have to actually have the entire BSG 3rd season DVD collection before I would will it out of existance. And even then, it's a stretch.

Some of us are desperately trying to forget BSG so that sometime in October, our TiVo greets us when we walk in from work saying, "I have a surprise for you."

Ever heard the term "cliffhanger"?

Yeah sure.... everyone wants to know what happens next. It's just evil the way they transitioned the finales. I mean seriously, have it seem like all hope is lost and there is no chance for survival. Then make us wait for months.... thats just freaking evil man..... evil.

SO SAY WE ALL! couldnt have out it better myself admiral. seriously good work everybody, and brad you and your team should think about changing empires, really, the colonial fleet would be honored, and welcome you haha. we can always use more viper pilots. great job though, thanks for the dedication, and i'll just have to keep playing this until BSG comes back

Hehe...i love all three scifi friday shows...i'm also loving doctor who, but that's a different story.

I wonder how accurately the cylons and battlestar can be made on here....>_>

Hell, imitating the bsg's tech would be nice, it would be much like the carrier in starcraft save that it could fight on its own quite well....and being able to essentially warp anywhere would be nice. non hyperdrive speed wouldn't be so hot though. Someone should make a mod for this...owning the 12 colonies would be awesome...

But getting a bit more on topic, scifi giving the game a awesome score is neat.....time for me to check out their review...>_>

i already have 2 mods waiting to be approved (one seems to be taking forever) of the pictures of BSG characters for use as leaders, as well as race logos for each of the 12 colonies. and depending on what kind of time i have in the future i may begin trying to design bsg models in 3ds max for use in game.

Now that we know we have a veteran 3D modeller in the fleet (hello Knightsaber!), we should get him to design a 40.000 polygon Galactica like they use for the CGIs...

Woah, woah, some of us live in countries where season 2 hasn't finished airing yet!

Keep it to yourselves

Personally i would quite like to see a space travel system using B5 jump gate / engine technology. basically unless a ship was given a jump engile (large, bulky component) it could only move from one jump gate (a specialist star base?) to another. Not really compatible with GalCiv2, but I think it would be an interesting idea.

Oh and by the way join the Colonial Fleet, its better than being nuked by toasters

I had a go at doing battlestar style designs when I first got GC2.

(deliberately put these as links so as not to suddenly fill this thread with images)

I might have a go at creating new ones over the weekend now I've got the Beta installed and can rotate components (I also created those ships before I realised I could scale the components... oops, should really read the manual). Anyway, this isn't the show-off-your-ships thread...

I can't wait until S3 of Galactica as well. Amazing piece of sci-fi. SG1's still great and I'm loving Atlantis but BSG is a work of art. Like watching a film every week. Really glad they kept the Pegasus, just hope it doesn't get wiped out in the Season finale, kinda cool having two Battlestars so they actually have a chance in battles and can go a-huntin'!

I thought SG1 was finished when Richard Dean Anderson stopped being full time but I'm actually liking Ben Bowder. The whole religious crusade thing is kinda cool as well.

Yeah, like Germany, where I hail from? Well, in that case, better not read spoiler threads or you could always email a guy with a TiVo over in Britain or the US or try other means to get your hands on some Ep.2 stuff...

Cool! GS is big time now!!!

well if knightsaber doesnt make the fleet some battlestars or something im still going to try to make something in 3ds max, thinking vipers first, who knows. i would like to see a stargate of sorts added to the game, like you can take constructors, go to a point in space and then create a gate, maybe in parts though so that you get just a base gate after like 10 constructors, then more for shields etc... but then you can go to another point in space and create another gate (would greatly help on gigantic maps) and maybe they are only in pairs or you can build a network where you go in one and can pick where you want to come out if you have 3 gates for example. might unbalance things but i like the idea if someone can figure out how to do it.
