Why no trade in the campaign?

Why has the trade research route been removed for campaign games?

A lot of research branches aren't present. I'm assuming that they will become available as you progress throught he campaign.

It's available in some of the missions, just not in all.

In that case the campaign missions missing trade could do with removing loading tips for it and especially the quarterly report on how everyones (non-existent) trade is going
