1.1 Scoring Change

1.1 Scoring Change

Will be applied rectoactively

We've been analysing Metaverse data and while the scoring was taking the game turn into account, it clearly isn't enough.

That is, even if you're taking the game turn and dividing the score by that, one can still sit on a lead indefinitely.

So for 1.1, the game turn will be squared so that it has a much more significant impact.  In addition, the difficulty level will be applied exponentially.

Existing Metaverse scores posted will be retroactively modified. So, for instance, that 4million score that someone got by playing the system will end up being 13,300 instead (though we're going to delete the score entirely since it was a clear case of abuse).

In terms of Metaverse scoring, it isn't just the faster you win, there's a sweet spot where you maximize your civilization's various strengths.  I.e. if you were to win on the first turn, that wouldn't really give you a great score because you haven't accomplished much.  I don't know what that sweet spot is.

The scoring system works as follows (in 1.1):

Each turn your population is taken, then multiplied by the difficulty level to the 1.1 power. That amount is then divided by the game turn.  The final result is taken to the square root.

Then your research score is taken into account in a similar way.

And economic history.

And military history.

Overall, population probably counts a bit more than the others.

What's new in 1.1 is the difficulty level being taken to the 1.1 power and that this overall score is then divided again by the game turn.

However, so that scores don't get ridiculously small, we are multiplying 1.1 games by 10. So there will be an advantage to using 1.1 over 1.0x at that point.

This will start with this week's beta of 1.1. We plan to release 1.1 final early next week.

Ho-de-hum, another win, another lowering of my overall score. How is the schedule coming along on the retroactive MV scoring?

Did i mention that you don't even need to build any ships , colonise any planets .. all i did was researched 2 things and formed alliances thats it

@Mega : i don"t see how thats possible>> even at 80 % research and switching planets over to reserch ove i have the stuff built on them i still can't get through ALL the techs in less than i have been.. please send an email to me with your stratagy of you don't want to talk about it openly..

The only reason i submitted those games was because while talking to ppl in the chat channel and telling them what i'd done they still didn't believe me .. so i posted the first score.. then they said it was a once off and that i couldn't do it again .. and that it would only work on that lvl of play.. so i played the other 2 at the hardest lvl with FULLb ai's etc.. ant still they weren't sure.. but like i said i've asked SD to please delete those last 3 games of mine as I don't condone taking advanntage of a Mathematical error... Its one thing playing the game as they provide it and yet another if there is a bug... and believe me this is

I'm very sure both Magnumaniac and me know what you're doing and how you do it.
But it's good that you bother Stardock with it, it's an exploit that should be eliminated or at least clearly shown in the score.

after all my talking to SD about it.. its still there and still scoring the same.. I just tested it again and got a good score for finishing the game in less than a year...

That is depressing.

I think I might stop submitting games.
Clearly many people are cheating the system, so it is pointless trying to compete with them.

I fear Stardock will have to put some work in the Metaverse to make sure only proper scores are in it. Otherwise it might die a quick death. I don't think resetting it would be a good idea by the way, just in case anyone thinks about it...
