Textures bugged out on day 3

Textures bugged out on day 3

I keep trying to post, but it won't post, lol. What's up? I posted before, but obviously something went wrong, so I'll make this brief. The textures were fine for 2 days. Yes, I turned my PC off at night. On the 3rd day the planets became white circles, suns were still okay, and ships were blue bubbles. I'm in the US so US fix doesn't apply to me. I have the 1.0X and the"enable the options which should have been enabled anyway" patches. My question is why did the game work for 2 days, then bug out on the 3rd. I was playing a game which I was able to load before without problems. Even new games have this problem now. Debug below. Thanks in advance. Nice game, btw... but nicer with graphics, lol. I can run 3 instances of Eve-Online, I run WoW, DAoC, I run them all. First time this ever happened to me. Besides, it worked for 2 days.

Your video drivers are almost two years old. Update them. There's a new version that was released last month.

Nvidia 5200 family can be touchy beasts - they generally work well but I have seen them have issues with 3d Graphics in some apps. Especially if they are running a driver set that is not up to par.

(Your Bios is very old too - might want to check with your MB maker to see if there are any updates out there for it too, though that may be problematic...that may be the last for that MB, hard to tell; a lot of times there are never any bios updates released. )

Hey, thanks for replying. I'm surprised you all found my post, I wasn't able to, lol. I reposted under the bugs forum under a post called "problems with textures" or some such. Anyway they said drivers there too. Here was my response. And btw, thanks for responding.

" I doubt it's the video driver, though you may be right. This particular driver runs all my games without the need to constantly change drivers And the game ran troublefree for two days.

I just saved GalCiv2 as GalCiv2.bak in the My Documents\My Games files. Uninstalled everything using control panel then uninstalled what was left manually, including StarDock, then reinstalled everything and moved a save game file and a few ship files. I did not use the latest patch since I wanted to finish my game (not sure if that makes a difference). No problems. Works just as well as it did 3-4 days ago, lol. Video drivers? Maybe, but I don't think so. Might be a flukey option setting I made in GC2 or possibly Galactopedia changed something by mistake, or the .Net 2 Framethingie I had to install to run Galactopedia, but even these seem like wild guesses. Works now again though. I'll be back if it bugs out again, then I might consider a newer video driver. If you don't hear from me, the problem did not recur. Thanks to all."

Install the new drivers anyway. Ever since release, Stardock has repeatedly said that one should definitely update to the latest video drivers. Indeed, an extremely large percentage of the problems that people had with the game were solved simply by updating to the latest video drivers.

If you're a bit paranoid or otherwise hesitant about the idea of updating drivers, have Windows make a System Restore point. That way if some problem arises as a result of the new drivers, you can always roll back to the point from before the drivers were installed.
