Technology victory research

I've been trying to build a research-heavy empire and go for a technology victory, and I noticed something odd: the last few techs on that path have no in-game bonuses, despite having descriptions that sound very useful. It seems to me that "galactic understanding" might provide something like an espionage bonus, "near omniscience" could improve sensor range, and "beyond mortality" might increase population growth. None of those bonuses are overpowering, and it would be nice to have some benefit to being nearly omnicient and immortal during the time my empire is researching tech victory.

I finally remembered to try this. It appears "Technological Victory" is the only tech that cannot be traded.

I think the point is that to get the Tech Victory your empire needs to be able to survive without getting constant improvements from tech. That path took me ~30-40 turns from Discovery Spheres (the last useful one) on a gigantic galaxy where I controlled about 50% of the habitable planets, all focused on research.

I liked the tech victory sequence from GC1 much better than 2. I agree that you should get bonuses from tech victory path techs, but instead of being glommed onto the "research" arm of the tree, they should be spread into different areas. i.e. Near Omniscience should be after the most costly techs in the Research area of the tree, Beyond Mortality should be after the most costly Biology techs, and Galactic Understanding after the most costly Diplomacy and Culture techs. In other words, each component of tech victory should be at the end of a differently-colored part of the tech tree.

End of justkevin's quote

This might be true in DL, but certainly not in TA - not even in DA. In TA, almost every race (possibly all of them) has at least one tech that can't be traded or stolen. In DA, spore technology could not be traded (possibly tradable between the two races with that ability, I never tried that). Now if you were to say it's the only tech common to all tech trees that is not tradable, you would be right.

It is also the only tech you can't get with creativity.
