Political Party

Election results never change

K,

I have been having this problem with my current game for a while.
My party of choice is The Universalists
The Party in power is The Pacifists

"The next election will be held in 4294967125 weeks."?!?!?!?!

Um... So that sucks!

I tried starting a war with someone to force a vote. 56 against. NICE!! NO WAR
I had 76% approval rating with democracy.
I have tones of cash.
I tried lowering my tax rate, thus increasing aproval rating, and trying for war again. Still 56 against.
I waited a few turns with an approval rating of 90%. Tried war again. Still 56 against.

I saved the game. Loaded it. Same problem. Waited a day, same problem.

I believe my problems may have started when the United Nations force everyone to use Democracy for 3 years. I didn't even have the Republic tech. Next turn my government is Republic, not Democracy, and I don't have either tech.

Any sudjestions?

Yup, you can't do anything really if you aren't in power. Especially the pacifists. So, they won't let you have a war, and you get a 20% diplomacy penalty. Nice, a challenge

I was pretty sure that I had so I checked.
The restriction is no longer in effect.

Even though I was forced into Democracy/Republic for 3 years there still should have been elections on ruling party in that time.

When you can change governments, change to the autocratic one, the one the game starts with. No one will oppose you then.

Why declare a war yourself, boy ? Demand gift, build culture starbase around their planets, and do on...

This is why they shouldn't have the UPN meet every year and they shouldn't have elections every three years--They NEED to start measuring things in terms of game turns--As it stands things are ridiculous now. Have an election every 50-100 turns have the have the UPN meet every 50-75 turns; this is how you scale things so there's consistency for players not stupid years that cause fluctuations in turns. This is the one thing that annoys me the most about an otherwise excellent game.

"dude, I was declaring war to try and force a vote to change the leading party "

I may be wrong on this, but I assumed that a vote before declaring war was to see if your senate would allow you to attack an enemy. I did not think that it impacted who the ruling party was?

You could try leaving the United Planets, thus ending any restrictions they placed upon you. Once you leave, you can't go back, and you cannot trade with anyone, but it may force an election. I haven't tested this though, so be sure to save first!

yeah, that's what i thought too... why would voting on an issue change who is in power?

The crazy number for number of weeks till election sounds like an uninitialized variable or something...it probably doesn't get set until you actually have the tech. HOpefully the API responsible for the UN thing will reset it when the 3 years expires.

If someone attacks you first you should be ok...just provoke them a little.

The vote that comes up when declaring war, does not determine whose party is in control. All it does is decides IF you go to war. The three year vote for political parties is the only time government control changes party hands. Just focus on your economy for a while and build your wawr machines infastructure!

I'm not sure what caused it but I agree, it sounds like the variable that determines how long till the next vote has been given some absurd number.                                                                                                                                             Thanks for clearing up the war vote, I've actually been noticing that myself the last few days. I've looked at the united nations screen and it no longer has the restriction for the government, however I'm still not going to have a change in the senate for like 300 years. I've figured out a way to declare war, I allied myself with a very weak race and then bribe who ever I want to kill to attack my ally. I don't care what the pacifists say, I'm going to protect my ally!
