Invading planets?

Hi I am trying to invade a planet but for some reason I am not able to. Do I have to declare war on that race first? If so how can I do that?

Thanks

all you need to do is sending a troop transport to that planet...it's required that you research planetary invasions first...

Are there any ships defending the planet?
If so, you need to destroy those ships before you can use a transport to invade it.

In general invasion before decleration of war is quite effective tactically.

No, war isn't necessary, get rid of defenders and make sure you're using a transport.

very strange. there are two plannets in the system. the first i took easily the second would not invade. maybe there are ships in orbit that i did not notice i will check when i get home tonight.

The other possibility is that the planet might not have been colonized yet. If so, you'll need to try a traditional colonizing ship to take it. I know the planet-rush normally sees most planets snapped up, but if it's an area away from the major players, and near a minor race, that might explain it.

Just my 2 cents.

It is actually a system where i had both plannets early game, but were taken from me. finally have the ability to take them back.

i just connected to my home machine because i was wondering. I saw though that there was a defender. Got my butt kicked trying to invade but at least i know why it was like that.

Actually there is a bug that you don't need to destroy the defenders if you are not already at war with the race. But this will be fixed with the next release.

Something a bit like this happened to me the other day.

I'd attacked a system with two planets, and destroyed all the defenders at both of them. Then my transports arrived and handily conquered the first planet. But then they refused to attack the second! There were no ships in orbit, they just didn't seem to want to. I sat there and grumbled for several turns, destroying the new defending ships as they were rushed into production, but otherwise able to do nothing. Then a transport owned by one of the flippin' minor races sails up and helps itself! Phooey.

I'm having the same problem in a two-planet system but with me it’s the home planet of the Race I'm attacking. I thought there was maybe a special rule. Sounds to me like some kind of bug with two planet systems. I hope it clears up or I'll never be able to defeat that race.

I would like to add that I've defeated all ships in orbit and have transport fleets full of marines. I took the first planet no problem but the transports refuse to invade the second.
