Tooltips in v1.1?

Are there going to be improvements made to the research and planet screen w.r.t. better tooltips? I downloaded the v1.1 beta and I couldn't see any changes in those areas, and glancing throug the changelog there doesn't appear to be any relevant changes in this regard. There was a post on the front page shortly after 1.0 was release stating that stardock knew it's tooltips "sucked" and they were going to improve them, so I didn't post about the lack of tooltips. Because of the obscurity of the game mechanics, which better tooltip would help, I have not played the game and patiently awaited v1.1. I have been keeping tabs on the website from time to time though, and I'm becoming worried about the lack of mention of any tooltip improvments in the beta change logs.

Some specific tooltips I had hoped for are :

1) Tooltips for planet productions. Where to all those shields, hammers and flasks come from? I've read some posts detailing this, but in game there is nothing that tells you this. These leads to a disconnet between what resources your gathering/generation and a real usuable value. For instance if I create a starbase on a research node I get a +x bonus to research, but I have no idea what the number means. How many extra research points am I getting from that? Is it increasing my research points directly, if so how much? Is it just increasing the flasks on a planet, if so how much is it?

2) Tooltip for almost every technology. I research mouse over a minaturization tech and it tells me I gives me +x minaturization. What does that mean? Is +x and addative value or a percentage modifier. How is that going to change the stats of my ship components. (Is there anywhere I can see my current minaturization value?) I assumed this would modifiy my ship components size down (how much I have no idea), but someone on IRC said they though it increased hull size instead. In either case I have no idea what this technology does for me in terms of building my ships. Another case is Advanced hulls. If you click on advanced hulls it tells you you get "MEDIUM", "MEDIUM" and "MEDIUM" under ship component. I'm guessing this means you can build medium hulls ships, but its hardly clear from the description itself. I'd like a tooltip that says this technology will allow you to build hulls with x spaces.

I'm not trying to bitch here, I like stardock and I really want to like galciv2. I can best sum it up with a quote I told a friend who I was trying to give an assessment of the game too. "I get the sense that the game has some really good game mechanics, but those mechanics are totally obscured behind the interface. It's almost impossible to figure how how researching technology or gathering resources affects your empire in any concret way."

First of all, I'm not sure about new tool tips in 1.1, I think they are adding that in, then again, I really can't tell the difference, because I don't really need them. I've played enough to figure out what they do, so I haven't been paying attention to th at. With that said...

1) Planet production in 1.1 will be simpler to figure out than in 1.0x at least. In 1.1, just take all your factories and the amount of PP (production points) that they can generate, multiply that by your spending slider (0.00 for 0% spending, 1.00 for 100%), the multiply it again by how much spending you are doing in a particular area (.33 for 33% in military), and you get a base value. Then, go look at your civilization "stats" screen, and check out your "Military Production" bonus, if you are getting 50%, then multiply the base value by 1.50. You will be charged 1.25 of the cost, since half the bonus is free, and half you have to pay for. This is the same value that is modified when you building mining starbases (IE: research miners will add to your empire research stat). I agree that there should be a tool tip that basically says: "30 PP x 1.00 Spending Ratio x .33 Military Focus x 1.50 Racial Bonus = 15 Production". Similarly, Military cost for this situation would be "30 PP x 1.00 Spending Ratio x .33 Military Focus x 1.25 Racial Bonus = 12 BC".

2) Tool tips for every technology seems a little overboard, since you already have the descriptions right there. Why not just make them more informative? As for your questions:

- Miniturization adds to your Race's Miniturization Stat, and can be seen on the Stats page just like everything else. What it does is make your hulls that % bigger. So a huge ship that normally has 100 spaces (in 1.1),will have 120 hull space available for you to put components on if you have 20% miniturization.

- In regards to "Medium" "Medium" "Medium", this is because there are three styles of medium ships that become available once you research Medium Hull Construction. So you get three hulls to use, all of which are called "Medium". I suppose it could be named to be "Medium Hull 1", "Medium Hull 2", "Medium Hull 3", but it really would make no difference.

It might be nice if it the game could fetch some statistics on the various hulls/components/modules/facilities that you gain when you mouse over them and display in a little window (sort of like those google ads)... although who knows when something like that will come.

I just installed the latest beta of Galciv2 (4a) and didn't not any difference in the tooltips from 1.0x. For example, there still appears to be no way to figure out where the final number of the Flasks, Hammers and Shields in the planet screen comes from. I realize there are covoluted formulas for calculating this that genuinely helpful people on these board repeat from time to time, but in the context of actually enjoying the game that information is worthless. Casual players simply want to know how much different factors (mining starbases, economic settings, etc) contribute to the total shields, hammers and flask at a glace, not search through the GUI for several minuites looking for all the variables to plug into a formula.

Have tooltips been forgotten?

No, there is a tooltip over Military production explaining where it's coming from. They haven't added it to Social and Research yet though, I suspect that those will have to wait for 1.2.

I would also really like to see a tooltip over Food Production detailing the current population growth (in millions) and the population cap from planet quality.
