Ship/Starbase Textures

I've been playing this game for two weeks and I only just now realized I have no textures on my ships or starbases! Goes to show how much a good game will distract your from cosmetics.

Anyway, i'm wondering, what can I do to fix that? I've verified my regional settings are correct. My Windows is US English, set for US English. I've verified I have the most recent drivers for my graphics card (which are actually quite old, Dell doesn't update often enough and Nvidia's Detonator drivers don't work, they refer me to Dell).

Any suggestions? Its not a critical thing. I didn't even notice it for this long, so its not like I'm going to quit playing now.

And the annoying thing is that someone just posted something similar, too! *grumble*

For what its worth, this is a GeForce 440go chipset in a laptop. Upgrading it isn't an option, and if its not compatible with the textures, that's cool. i'll just deal with it.

The problem depends on your system setup. If you copy and paste the debug.err file from your GalCiv2 directory in here, that will contain some useful info.

In particular though if you have some cheap or integrated nVidia card such as a GeForce4 MX, it may simply be unsupported (GF4MX's are simply souped up GF2's, not true GF4's). So post that debug.err and we'll see what we can figure out.

No need to post your debug.err then--that's the problem. The 440Go is a derivative of the 4MX line, and as such does not support directx 9.0c fully or correctly. So your laptop is stuck with plastic ships, sorry.

I've ran GalCiv2 on an unsupported video card at one point, and also saw a lack of textures. I don't think there is anything you can do unfortunately.

If you are on Windows (i use 98se for games), try tu put your OS localization on "English". Work for me.

*heh* Yep plastic ships for me. Not that I mind. My Neoterran Junkers and LEOSweepers look great in Blue and Red plastic.

I run GalCiv2 on my Dell laptop, an Inspiron 5160 , with the GF 440Go chipset as well. Instead of using drivers from Dell, go to OmegaDrivers.net and grab their copy of the Nvidia driverset. It's really old too, but still a lot newer and a LOT better than the ones offered by Dell. They also use real Detonator driver sets, so they make your card perform much better. I can run GalCiv2 at 1280x1024 and still get really good framerate with these drivers, and I have full textures too.

Cheers!

I gave the Omega Drivers a try, but it resulted in severe graphical problems. Can you point me to the same driver you downloaded?
