Do not download the second Beta 1.1!!!

Do not download the second Beta 1.1!!!

I am going back to version 1.0X.010. I liked the first Beta 1.1 (wish I could still run that) but the second one is loaded with very severe problems. First of all, I am averaging more than one crash-to-desktop per hour. Secondly, it is riddled with errors --- Social Production indicates it is being moved over to Military Production, but it is really being wasted (so worse than original). If you do ^N in campaign mission, it restarts you, but with random settings. At some point after you load a saved game, it will tell you that all your units are outside their range. At that point, any other game you load will have the same problem. Fortunately, ending the program and restarting fixes that problem.

At any rate, until Stardock gets there act together on this one, stick with the first beta if you haven't already upgraded!

Here's one crash I was having in beta1 of 1.1. I don't know if it was fixed in the latest.

If you delete a ship design, *AND* you still have ships of that type around (they were in a fleet at the time you deleted the ship design - ships in fleets don't get deleted when you delete a ship design), then the savegame crashes whenever you try to relead.

I've not had any crashes with the Beta Version 2. No problems, and I LIKE the Social moving to the Military, and for some odd reason, population seems to be a real needyy for Production, and Research, cuz I had 21 Billion on a planet, and even without any Production Buildings, I could just finely build anything. Which I like, if POP is so needed, then it makes it worth it to build at least one Farm on every planet

Is there anyway to get the pre 1.1 beta version. The current beta is constantly crashing on my machine. The first time have had any problems with Stardock products. How do you get the debug report to work.

You can get 1.0X from the downloads area.

If you could let us see your debug.err that would be incredilby helpful. It's in your GalCiv II directory.

Dacrath, this is exactly what my situation was. I had military spending at 0%, had no social project set up for a planet, and it showed "never" as when it would be produced. When I click next-turn; the next turn, it still shows no progress on the ship.

Apologies --- I know it's a Beta, I was just getting pretty frustrated when I had had my fifth crash in as many hours of play today. One one of my crashes I looked at it, it had comments about unallocated memory at the end before it crashed. Wierd that other people aren't encountering it, I wonder what is specific about my system.

I did go back to the earlier version and played a completely crashless-session --- what a relief! Although I miss a lot of the features that have been implemented in the Betas.

I encountered this in version 1.0X.1 too

#1 It's a beta. Please do not tell other people not to use a build. The point of a beta is to find bugs. Without public beta testing, instead of 1.1 coming out in a week or so it would come out in a month or two like you see with most games that don't have public betas of their updates. So yes, there are bugs.

@ Frogboy: Somehow you are using your customers as "guinea pigs".
Well if we see it from the view that people have payd for the product it's bad. For such a Job you have (payed) betasters and your developing team.

The good side is indeed, that you are faster at "bug spoting", if you listen to the users.

I am also someone who doesn't like to use Beta-Versions, if we talk about patches and drivers.

And something else about the forum:
Connection is often slow. If you Open a topic it often doesn't "reach" the proper forum. In my worsed case I had to Edit a new topic 4 times till it "reached" it's "destination.
And you often read that users had made an "unplaned" dooublepost because of such things.

There is also no possibility to write PM (Private Messages) to other users. That would be especially be useful for us "Modders" if we want to exchange our "know-how" and ideas with other user, without posting our mail adress to the public.
There is some good "fourm-software" why are you not using such one?

So I hope you are not only improving the game, you are also improving the forum!

I am afraid to DL the beta. (not because of a post though). I would be willing to DL it and see what happens but certainly would want to know how to create a second running copy so I can still play.

My debug file is quite long. How often does this clean itself out?

The biggest thing I could offer is how the patch affects my paticular system. V1.0x runs fine without any ctds, but it does lag a little every now and then. This is expected, and this is why:

Below specs set-up. I am gratefull the game runs at all (working on getting a new rig). But maybe running the beta on it might give you some new info. If you don't think it will afford you any new information then I will just wait for the released patch. SD can email me if they want to "see what happens".

Holy hell, nobody is forcing anyone to download the frickin' thing. So what if Stardock want to use players for guinea pigs? It works out better for the community at large, and some people get a real buzz from testing things before the rest of the world gets to experience it. Personally I don't like that, so I didn't download it, but thank you to those people who did (well, at least the ones who know what they're doing), because now I won't have to wait forever for a patch.

@joekraska

Not the same. My game is insensitive to input. There is nothing I can do.

Make sure you have no rally points set up on a planet (planet and rally point in the same spot). If a ship is on autopilot to that RP it will hang the turn. (It can be hard to see the planet under the RP, even more so if it's a class 0).

AFAIK this can happen in 1.1 beta 2, then again I doubt anybody ever made a error repport on this

There is an email somewhere for you to send the debug.err to. Maybe someone can post what it is and how to use it

Well you should try [email protected], with the debug.err and and zipped savegame if you have a reproducable CTD

Hey Zippy! Look at your drivers (2nd line from bottom in the second big paragraph)! 2004 ~ Update them!

You could use the autoarchivefunctionality of sdc or you have to reinstall.

How do you get off the beta?

By turning of the "show prerelease version" checkbox and updating to the proposed version perharps
