Question - Need Help - When AI Gives you Ships

One of the AI opponents at one point said "We're going to give you some of our finest ships to help in your battle against X" Then ships started coming in, but I don't know how to use them, or convert them to my side. They just stack up and sit there. How do you make use of this gift?
