Planetary improvements give bad morale.

So I build 4 Virtual Reality Centers for a total morale bonus of 240% (60% each)! I should be able to have 100 billion (-80%) 100% happy people with a tax rate of 69% (~ -160%). And yet I can't because my 240% is only worth ~70. All the other morale modifiers, especially the negative ones, seem to work. This has happened to me multiple times, so I'm fairly certain it's a bug.

I think the more people you have, the more morale bonuses you need to keep it up. It doesn't directly add in 240%.

The way it works is that you have this thing called "base morale". This is the morale you get when you take into account only the population. So, your base morale is 100 - the modifier for population, which for 100 population is 80. So, your base moral is 20.

Now, any morale modifier percentage you get modifies the base morale. So, your base morale of 20 gets adjusted by 240% up to around 50 (raised to some arbitrary decimal power), and this gets added into the base morale to get the final morale. Note that your civilization's morale gets done this way too, so that 40% morale for your Civ becomes only +8 morale for this world.

In general, you need a pretty hardcore morale bonus to actually make huge-population worlds work.

Morale, definately one of the most important traits. Never start a gaime without it.

Why is morale that important? I don`t have any problems with money, even with low morale

In later games you will have problems to establish a better gouverment that gives you better bonuses. Also in War you will see the oponent chose a morale war on you where ppl from your own planet fight for your enemy. That are the major things that makes low morale the worst, in my eyes.
