Mouse wont work

I posted this in the Gal Civ II forum and I am reposting here.

I was find until I updated last version. Prior to that, i changed as not to use a full window as Galactopedia crashed my games when I switched back and forth.

Uninstalled gsame, reinstalled and I can't get my mouse to respond to even set options to hardware mouse. Catch 22!!
WTF.

Geforce 6800GT.

This looks likes its been an old problem (Feb 2006) or so and would like to have an answer or I need my money back.

Restoring Windows updated back to an earlier point, uninstalling game, reinstalling (from net) very time consuming and none of it works...

The bottom line is when the game starts up I can do nothing. The mouse doesn't work. I can't change options to hardware mouse, I can't even quit the game properly.

A Windows XP system restore got no results other than forcing me to reinstall McAffee.

Needless to say, on a relatively new AMD64, 939 pin rig that can run anything under the sun, I feel a little perturbed.

This forum editor is not quite right -

To the above message from me:

My mouse will not work at all. I can't even get to the options part of the game to change to hardware mouse. I have a Geforce 6800XT with an AMD64, 939 pin machine that runs everything under the sun but I cannot even exit this game properly. I saw back in FEb 2006 this was noted as a potential problem but it's a real one with me.

I have used Windows XP system restore (because the game worked until an update), reinstalled the game off the Internet all very time consuming and still I can't play.

The sad part is I had one game going and was looking forward to more (old Civ Gal I player) and here I am.

Any advise, patches, potions, incantations that might work? Prayers??

Thanks,

RB

Get rid of the beta. Beta's are not stable, and will certainly increase problems over the main games. Uninstall the patch, and go back down to 1.0x with SDC. A debug.err will help, so people can analyse your problem, as it is I (and everyone else) can only guess. Your machine is definately powerful enough, it was tested that a windows 98 can run the game. Make sure all unnecesary background programs are closed as you play it, because they cause problems by pinching the CPU. Mcaffee, if I remember correctly, damages the game by thing that the script is malicious. This must be turned off to have any decent chance of not getting interrupted, and really so should all firewalls. If you must have a firewall, uninstall all the others and use ZoneAlarm, which is very good, and won't try and block galciv2 automatically.

Hope this helps, remember the debug.err so we can see more about what's happening.

If you believe a hardware mouse cursor will help , you can set it manually by editing the prefs.ini file in ~/my documents/my games/galciv2

Sounds like your desktop and in game resolution don´t match. Suddenly you can´t "push" the buttons right? Switch your desktop resolution and it should work.

Thanks all. I'll go back to the last version. I wasn't sure that I could do that thru SDC but I'll give it a try.

I think the McAffe deal is just when the program checks the Internet but I'll shut it down.

The tip on manually updated the options is great as well.

I looked and couldn't figure it out.

Needelees to say, I tried many, many things.

Thanks all agiain.

open your prefs.ini file and find the line

HardwareMouseCursor=0

Changing the 0 to 1 or back to 0 turns it on and off. Don't forget to save your changes too.

Midnightsun, that was the answer. Changed my XP computer resolution and wah lah!

Appreciate it man.

This came after I reinstalled the game from scratch (my disk came in the mail.) Changed the h/w mouse deal. Both didn't work.

Again, I thank you all very mucho.

BTW - the disk box and all is beautiful. Nice technology poster too!
