GalCiv II in ASIA - Singapore/Malaysia

Help!! Who's in charge of bringing in the titles?!?!

Hey ya,

I'm very interested in buying the game - Collectors Edition/Normal Edition, but I can't seem to find this game in Singapore or Malaysia.

I've tried calling most of the Computer/Games Shops around, and some even have the cheek to say that there is no distributor of this game in South East Asia?!?!? WTF?!?!

Please advise where can I get a copy of this game, or let me know the shipping costs if I were to purchase one unit here (www.galciv2.com) and get it sent to Singapore/Malaysia.

Cheers!!!

Right now there are no plans to distribute GalCiv II in Asia. If you'd like to purchase a boxed copy direct, I believe the shipping fee is a flat $10.

Can't say I blame Stardock. That area of the world is software piracy Mecca.

(Not a sweeping generalization of the good people there, don't misunderstand)

10 bucks for shipping is steep after the exchange rate. What kinda mail are they using? Courier? Will the parcel get damaged?

But seriously, Stardock should let somebody bring in the game to this area. There are quite a number of people who would like to join the Metaverse and download the extra stuff that only work with orginal copies.

By completely closing the market here, even those who usually buy original copies will either have to skip the gaming experience, or pay a hefty sum to specially ship in a copy... not something the younger students can afford. The other option is of course something that we frown upon...

It isn't that we're not interested in selling the game at retail in Asia, it's simply that no company in that region we've spoken with is offering good terms. I think the best offer I've seen so far is that we'd take an 80% loss on each copy sold and that's not going to happen.

You could have downloaded it and been playing already. Plus they just told you they'd ship it to you in Asia...how many companies would do that? And you complain about $10 shipping? That's cheap for foreign shipping!

True, however original PC games in Singapore generally cost S$50-60 (every title like Warcraft3, Civ4. RTW).
US$44.95 is expensive, plus US$10 shipping. I'm not that rich.

Yarlen, a curious Q... if the answer's confidential, then tell me, i'm ok with it.

what do you look for when you wanna ship to Asia? what terms? Not to give any hopes yet, but I am from Malaysia and I might ask around to look for interested distributor. I am especially interested to introduce your concept of no-copy-protection to these masses and see their reaction to it.

Fistleaf & Darth Baboon, perhaps for now you have to settle for direct download only from Stardock Central... and if you want a physical copy, can burn to CD. not sure what's Stardock's view on that though.

Hi Medcatt,

That information is confidential, but feel free to have any distributors you think would be interested contact us directly via email ([email protected]).

Also, GC2 does not support unicode, so you wouldn't be able to translate it without additional work from us.

I think translation is probably only required in China. And Singapore is not China

I live in Thailand and was probably one of the first players of the final release game!

Just use Stardock to download and play - it incurs no shipping cost and it really doesn't take long to download.

Medcatt, you can burn your downloaded copy to CD - no problem!

No need for translation if we're talking about Singapore and Malaysia, we are comfortable enough with English here

Of course, people in America generally do not know that. I've seen mail sent to "xx-xx Some Street, Jurong West, Singapore, China".

I did get a GCI box from a software store in Singapore. If GCI can make it to Singapore shelve, why can't GCII?

Given the Asian market... Download demo/box to showcase, buy customers' subscriptions in front of them. Take profit for genuine help to customers

Can do? Little trouble for sellers/shop owners (no storage, etc.).
