Question about ending a war

Hi all:

I was wondering how to gain concessions from another civ after beating them in a war. I play at the level above challenging (forgot the name) and over several games, I have noticed that even if I am clearly winning a war, the AI isn't willing to give me a single tech to make peace. When I initiate contact, it aknowledges that I am winning but simply won't deal for peace. I don't always want to fight a war to the point of totally conquering my opponent, but I feel that my repeated victories in that war entitle me to some concessions. Am I missing something? What will the AI give up for peace? Is my ethical alignment getting in the way? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

well... instead of asking for tech, you could ask for money, planets, ships, starbase, etc. there are lots things to ask for, not just tech.

I have noticed that sometimes the AI is very stubborn. Sometimes it will yeild if you manage to make it's miltary rating go down very low, but the worse case would be that they surrender to someone else. They don't seem to have a sense of want to stay alive sometimes.

I don't think I have ever been successful in requesting peace AND compensation. However, if the AI decides to sign a peace treaty then they usually would give away a lot. It's never your decision. Basically you need to beat them into submission so to speak.

I am consistantly successful at asking for peace and getting large concessions. The important thing is that you must be significantly more powerful than them. Not just barely. They value peace based upon common sense. If you are only slightly less powerful than the enemy, peace isn't worth much concessions... If your enemy is massive and has fleets running through your territory crushing your ships then you will do more to make peace. Does that not make sense to you? The amount of victories does not matter, the AI does not remember you killed 4 of its fleets, 6 defenders and conquered two planets, while it only destroyed one of your frieghters, it looks at your military capabilities (and econ) compared to its military and economy.

I have found that if you can make their military rating go below yours, then they will be willing to make peace. The better that you military rating is compared to them, the more they are willing to give you to end the war. It also helps if they are in a war with other races, and you manage to make their rating lower than those other races. They generally sue for peace then.

I've never tried this, but I'm assuming you could bulid spin control centers on several worlds and park your massive fleets in orbit. If it makes you suddenly seem far more powerful than you really are, they might be willing to cease fire.

Prior to the beta, I heard the Spin Control center thing works.
