Dont let us down!!!

game upgrades

When I bought this game the Stardock site told us that they would create new parts for the ship to keep the game interesting and new techs and new ............ I have yet to see Stardock do this, I have only seen gamers do this. I am feeling a bit let down. I updated to the beta patch and now the game is 10 times more buggy than before. I havent seen the release date for the full patch and I think that its important to keep us informed of such things. I love galciv 2 soo much and I can see an initial effort like no other, but now the galciv 2 team seems to be getting tired or something. I have heard many players asking when you guys are going to fix there broken games ( IE.. the new patch ) but havent seen a respons. PLEASE tell us when we will get to use our game again. Like I said before, I love this game, but it doesnt work anymore due to crashes a plenty and the turn button missing. I have more issues, but would be happy to get these resolved first. :D Dont get me wrong, I am a programmer too so I know how hard it is to get the program to work on multi platforms without buggs, but when it comes to just getting a few more ship parts to play with Stardock should be more forthcomming. THey did come out and tell everyone that the reason they didnt need copyright protection was because they would keep make great updates all the time, but I am not seeing the ship parts other than a few from players that try there best . Stardock, Please help us!!! :)

You do know what BETA means right? if you don't know what it means then it means "DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS PATCH! PERIOD."

Betas are buggy. Thats why they are called Betas.

Give them time. If you have a look around the place you can see all the work they are putting into these things. New ship parts are just one of many things they intended to do, and so far they have kept to their word pretty well.

I, for one, don't feel let down by Stardock at all. They seem to have been working their butts off since the product's launch to keep to GalCiv2 community informed, to deal with inevitable bugs, and to update the game. Look at what haapens with other games out there -- a big launch and then no or minimal support. Stardock gave a lot of support and updates to GalCiv, and I trust them to do the same for GalCiv2

The GalCiv devs are some of the very best in the business. Anyone disappointed by the level of support for the game, and/or the level of transparency in the patch development/release process obviously have little experience with other game companies...

True, it told you on installation "Don't know what a beta is? don't install this"
This is untested code, and if you tell stardock the bugs they can fix them by 1.1
And have you not seen anything about Dark Avatar? the espionage options? releasing spies into opponents planets? campaign as drengin?
Stardock themselves are busy working on 1.1, getting all these options people have been screaming for (tech trading and blind exploration) as well as all the randomised stuff. They'll all be dead of exhaustion soon

Oh my Gawd, the game just came out this month, how many friggin updates do you expect? These guys have already outproduced other developers in terms of updates by 200%. Get a grip and stop complaining. All you had to do was ask when new ship parts might be available, without the criticism.

A developer who writes things like "I'll do this in the next patch" or "the patch will be released next friday" is either unexpired or stupid.
Because if there is the slightiest difference from what he said and what's going to be added, he'll be accused in the board.
So it's the best thing for a developer to stay away from the boards posting-button. The developer will shurely read what's written here, but he will not give a prediction.

Everyone who is developing software with a related board will agree to me I think

1) I find it difficult to believe you are a programmer considering you are complaining about a beta being buggy.
2) You say you "have more issues." Have you bothered to find the Sticky: Problem in game and posted your problem with debug.err file? Link
3) As others have mentioned, the game's been out for a month, they've already issued one update and are working on a second. Relax, all good things in due time.

Im amazed at the level of support this game has recieved, it's totally amazing. Im going to keep saying amazed or amazing because that's what it is. It totally blows away any and all competition or competing groups... like Chaos Concepts who are the antithesis of this group.

On the internet everyone is a programmer, lawyer or both

lol. You cant complain about Stardock, you just cant, if you are your lying! Most companies make a patch or 2 just to fix w/e bugs they missed these guys r hell bent on making thier game better and thats the way it should be....nope cant complain.

Without bashing anyone, STardock put a disclaimer that this was a beta release and warned everyone that you will downloaded at your own risk because there were many bugs on it, the reason of the release was to give the players the opportunity to help in the improvement of the Beta and also to give a taste of the things to come, I was one of the original betatesters and believe me our opinion helped the devs to make THIS GAME BETTER AND BETTER, if you find something that needs improvement or if you have an idea of how to make the game even better, just post it and let the devs jump into it. A kind word goes very far with these guys, they are excellent people ready to work with you and to listen to you, I have to see yet a developer doing that. (Except these guys here).

Not trying to pick at you but, please don't post dark text against a dark background. That's a basic rule in web design, or for forum posters as well--few will read your comments otherwise.

Games aare always a little buggy after updates and see as this game is pretty advanced it has very few bugs.

Take for example Civ IV... I´m still waiting for the third patch, which supposedly entered QA 2 months ago...

And people will never get those English tech trees. Would be faster to learn French.

I'm a lawyer with a part time software engineering job for my own software firm. Why do you make fun of us so?

Uhhh, the first two patches they've done so far have added a few new options if I'm not mistaken.

In summary : OP needs to learn what a beta is and why it would be buggy and to read the patch notes for the non-beta patches.

The game is old how many months ? There have been how many patches ? The Beta is how old ? I wouldn't expect any extra content in the first 3 to 6 months so what SD has done so far seems pretty ok. As for keeping us up t odate, they do a reasonable job, I hope they never give a fixed release date for any patch/program as it will slip and people will hang them for "lying".

What kind of stuff do you program anyway ?

People should give Brad and his team major kudo's for being as responsive and communicative as they are. I hope all the other publishers would TAKE NOTES, on how keeping your CUSTOMERS ( Thats us.. ) informed on a regular basis ( at least 2-3 times a week here) and allow the customers the OPPORTUNITY to participate in the QA process (D/Ling and trying beta versions).

StarDock is also SO MUCH better at explaining the reasoning behind why the programs work the way they work. I may not always agree, but I DO respect their stance on why they don't want to change certain things. And beyond those few areas, they are very flexable. Most other companies don't even BOTHER to listen, much less participate, in their own game forums. Offering serious, thought-out suggestions actually get considered here, or at least get some response. Try that at Eidos, Rockstar, or *shudder* EA....

This game I think is one of the higher quality releases. It had FAR fewer bugs than most releases nowadays.
I've been playing the beta since the day it was released, and I haven't encountered a major bug yet (Just a few cosmetic ones). Plus, look at all the BONUS MATERIAL they are offering to anyone who has purchased the game lately. I'd say I got my money's worth, and then some, right there. And there well be more to come in the future; not only from StarDock, but also from fans and 'backyard' programmers in the modding community. Major Kudo's to Brad and team for making all the basic programs and tools available to the community.

I also want to thank Brad and team for having the fortitude to publish a NON-MULTIPLAYER game. Somehow, somewhere, some idiot 2-3 years ago decided EVERY game has to be MP ( N0 ^^p = u 5uX0r). I dis-like MP. It only makes sense for a very few type of games ANYWAY. I'd much rather have a stable, HIGH QUALITY SP game, then some buggy, stripped down, half-a$$ed MP/SP hybrid that waste a lot money, space, and power, only to supremely SUCK at BOTH. If you want MP, buy UT '07. If you want SP, GalCiv II is the game to own.

Wow. I created this forum to see how many gamers would get there keyboard in a twist, but I never thought that it would bring you guys out of the wood work. I thought that you guys would enjoy a little bashing on someone , so wrote a few things that I have noticed that some people just eat up. I think that the Stardock team is doing great, but I would like to know if they are expecting the next patch in year or next week. I dont need an exact date. I have found work arounds for most of the buggs found in the beta ( ... space bar for the TURN button disapearing and setting the autosave for every other week for the inevitable crashes.... ) , so I can wait until they get the game more balanced. Wow I cant believe the hate that some of you guys have all pent up . THere is help for you yet. Great going Dev team. I cant wait for the next patch. Guys I just wanted to remind you that its just a game, and you dont have to hate on everyone who has a diferent opinion than you..............

I dont know if anyone caught that I wrote in green. I thought that by doing this, someone might catch it, and see why. Red would have been for upset.

So you're a troll? Glad we've got that settled.
