Well, I am not sure to cleary understand your question. Are you using a pirate version of GC2? In any case, if you want to update the game to the latest version, you will need a valid serial id. But there isn't any copy protection associated with the 1.0 version. So if you have a problem with a pirate version, it could be possible you will still have a problem with a legitimate version.

Could you post your debug.err file locataed in the GC2 directory? It will allow to check if you have the latest drivers. And you need to have directX 9.0c to play the game.

I bought the game at Comp Usa so it should be legit. I can't get it to run at all. It will start the game but when i try to launch a new game after all my menu selections such as race and galaxy type. it crashes and reboots everytime. Same in campaign mode
there is no debug file either
so i don't get it

Definitely update the video drivers. It does make a difference. Also you should probably configure GC2 to run at the same resolution that you normally run windows. GC2 defaults to 1024x768 so go into Options before starting a new game and set the resolution to match.

Well, if you manage to go so far in the game, then you should have a debug.err file in the Galciv2 directory (where the glaciv2.exe is located)

I had the same problem initially - an old 32mb video card that did not support directx 9.0c
Couldnt get drivers so I replaced the card witha new one, everythings fine
