1.1 Turned into a war simulator

1.1 Turned into a war simulator

One of the reasons GalCiv 2 is a great game is that it isn’t all about just going to war with everyone. Pre 1.1, you saw civs that stay out of the action and pursue their strategy along a different non-militaristic route.

This is my second game (Challenging, with randomized races and intelligence) in a row with 1.1 beta and both have played out in a similar fashion. The game starts out with more tension then there was in previous versions. I find that I am rarely "friendly" with anyone. Eventually diplomatic ties break down and suddenly everyone "knows what I am doing", which is surprising, because even I don’t know what the hell I am doing, as I am not building starbases in the middle of other civ’s territory, nor am I planting a huge armada next to their home planet, so what exactly am I doing anyway?

For the second game in a row, everyone is warring with each other. Civs with only a moderate force are declaring war on two or three other races at once.

Now maybe the randomness is selecting only races who are war-like, or maybe I am missing some genius strategy on the AI’s part here, but isn’t something a little weird now with 1.1, or is this just my inability as a GalCiv 2 player? Let me know if anyone else shares similar or opposing thoughts.

Also, please please please provide an option to disable the "next ship autofocus" when moving ships around. Greatly appreciated : )

And finally, does anyone else feel that we should have a couple more points to distribute amongst race bonuses at the start of the game?

Otherwise, game is great. Thanks for the update!!

By the way, this post was started with my game that indeed does have tech trading left on. If anyone cares : )

In Beta 2, wars should be less likely.  So make sure you're using beta 2.

In fact, in beta 2, wars should be less likely than they were in 1.0.

Also, beta 2 includes a different way of calculating miltiary might.

In case you were wondering why beta 1 seemed so war happy:

When it was evaluating relations, it would look at threatening starbases. But there was a bug in which it would not discern WHOSE starbase it was. So any starbase counted against all players so making them a lot more likely to go to war.

So the complaints in this thread must be using beta 1 and not the released beta 2?

I think they win a self-owning award.

Tech Trading was easy mode for diplomacy and $.

Sure, but don't forget one small point: It is possible that not pressuring AI for BC in exchange of tech could help you in your standings with them. After, how would you feel is someone came to you and offer you tech in exchange of the maximum money you can give without feeling disadvantaged by the trade?

Wow, I must have gotten some defective patches... LOL

1.0 up to Beta3- AI practically asleep-passive (Usually played Masochistic to Suicidal,Gigantic,9civs)
Beta4B-AI out of control-last 6 out of 6 games, every AI declares war with the first year. Trippy stuff. Different circumstance each time. (Never higher than Masochistic, I'm too scared!!!) /It must not like my style of playing
Gonna see if the final 1.1 is like this. I might be topped out at Masochistic I'm afraid.

Not complaining mind you, just a total 180 as far as I am concerned
