Blowing up planets

How do blow up planets? Do I need to be evil for that tech or is it a function of a fully equipped military starbase?

You can't. I believe this was planned for terror stars, but that idea was scrapped. So no blowing up planets in the current game.

In a way you can blow up planets, but you can only "destroy" your own planets I know it because I wanted to try something else but it didn't worked and I noticed that destroyed colony receive a huge drop of planet quality, a Planet of class 14 became a planet of class 4.

Terror stars used to be able to destroy suns, and their planets, back in GC1. They weren't developed for GC2, time/effort constraints mainly. They MIGHT be in a later expansion..

i think that stardock said they thought the terrorstars just made the game too unbalanced. maybe if they dont add it back in later on, someone will make a mod for the game

It would definitely be useful if added. I just can't get into my Star Wars mod without a Death Star.

You can blow up planets, kinda. I've attacked a PQ1 planet using planetary bombardment and afterwards it just disapeared, not sure what happens or if it was a bug of sum sort.

You have core detonation, in the invasion options. It just breaks a little bit, but doesn't completely destroy it.

I think the game needs orbital bombardment and specialised bombs etc before it needs things like Death Stars.

Thanks for the replies. Not having destroy planet option limits options in the larger map games. I wll have to alter my strategy, but it is definately more fun watching plaets go BOOM! I can't imagine having to capture every planet in a huge map. The other options (alliance, tech, influence) just do not do it for me; I want to blow things up.
