Hmm does the AI ever build/research capital ships?

As title says, note that i only tried normal up to this stage but it seems the AI never researches far enough up the tech tree to get any ships that use the big or huge chassis.
Didnt try 1.1 yet so maybe they research more in that but in my last couple games I always end up with huge ships while the AI has frigattes at best which would be umm medium i guess. Even tried giving them the huge chassis then give it like 60 turns so they can build em but that didnt work either...

Also seems like they mainly use missles sometimes mass drivers but have yet to see em research far into the beam weapon tree.
Just curious if anyone has seen them build the biggest cap ships available. End game I always walk over them so the mop up is really boring.

The Terrans seem to do it all the time. Maybe try cranking up the difficulty level? I find that my being able to walk all over the enemies is largely due to being able to out-produce, out-tech, and out-maneuver them. And it's mainly the first two. The higher difficulties will allow the AI to keep up with you somewhat b/c of their economic bonuses, even if you control 30%-40% of the galaxy.

wow, as long as i dont stomp on them before they get to the biggest sizes, they definately all have built them to use against me.

I've seen the Altarians and Humans switch to large ships a lot faster than most of the others. The Dregins though seems to like having frigates (mediums) to be their biggest hulls, as a result, they usually get creamed in the later game if they haven't grown huge by the time the battleships (large) start rolling off the shipyards. Personally I haven't seen any dreadnoughts (huge) being built by the AI, I usually win before they have the chance to, but I think it will follow the same pattern, with the Altarians and Humans going to them first.

Well, in my current game as the Drath, I have the smallest military, worst tech, and a poor economy, but two AMAZING production planets, and vastly superior ships. But they are using bigger hulls. As for dreadnaughts, I'll post back once I'm done being kicked into tiny pieces

Yeah will try to crank up the difficulty level and perhaps get 1.1.

By the way whats the biggest planet you guys have seen? My last game i got a size 26!!! planet just a short hop away from my home. Was suprised to say the least that they even come that big and will probally never see one again heh.

Size 26 is not that uncommon. I have not seen more than one in a game, but have had them several times when playing several games. That came out a bit strange but I hope you understand what I meant.

I think one of the things being tried out is a better ratio for 'good' planets. A 26 was rarer. 5-7s very common, 8-10 common, 11-15 uncommon 16 and higher rare.

I hope they (Stardock) leaves this alone now, I like the better PQ numbers.

Best planet I've ever seen was a 32. It was called Nestor something. I remember it was owned by the Torrians and then the Drengins but they never fully developed it. I managed to influence it to my side near the end of the game but won through cultural victory before I could really build it up.

Best I found was a 22, but that was also in part to one of those ethical decisions you have to make. Needless to say I chose evil.
